Caitlin Clark’s star cast is just about to get an addition. First, the Indiana Fever retained their “No. 1 priority,” Kelsey Mitchell. “Indy’s been my second family. Everything I’ve been through the last eight years, I don’t think there’s any other place that was greater for me,” she said. Then, Lexie Hull was next as they almost completely retained their 2025 core. They also signed Monique Billings, who played for the Golden State Valkyries last year. Now, the Indiana Fever are on the verge of making another addition, as it’s to back up Caitlin Clark.

Clark spent most of the 2025 season injured. One soft tissue injury after another meant she played only 13 games, most of them on one leg. To make matters worse, the Indiana Fever had a point guard curse brewing. After Clark, her emergency replacement Aari McDonald broke her leg and Sydney Colson tore her ACL. Ahead of the 2026 season, the Indiana Fever are about to sign Clark’s immediate backup.

“The Indiana Fever are finalizing a deal with point guard Tyasha Harris, source familiar says,” Chloe Peterson wrote. “Announcement expected tomorrow.”

Harris is returning home. She is a Noblesville, Indiana native, and won three IHSAA state championships with Heritage Christian in high school. Harris has already played under Stephanie White at Connecticut for two seasons. One was a backup point guard, averaging 5.8 points and 1.7 assists while playing 16.7 minutes per game.

When she played as a starting point guard, she had a career-best season, averaging 10.7 points and 3 assists per game while shooting 42.5 percent from the field, 39.5 percent from the 3-point line and 76.6 percent from the free-throw line. Over her career, she has averaged 6.5 points and 2.5 assists after playing with the Wings and the Sun. She also teamed up with Aliyah Boston for one season at South Carolina.

Harris is a different type of guard than Caitlin Clark. A score-first point guard who can shoot threes. With Boston leveling up her creative duties last year, Harris could fit into this rotation.

However, even she is coming off a major injury. Harris had unspecified left knee surgery after 5 games last year and missed the rest of the 2025 season with the Dallas Wings. When Fever and WNBA fans pointed this out once her name was mentioned in the free agency, Harris fired back with a strong retort.

“Btw, I’ve been hurt twice in my 6 years … a rolled ankle sat out for 4 days then my first ever surgery beginning of last season so idk why y’all are saying im always hurt, 😅” she wrote. So, it seems Fever fans have little to worry about regarding her injury history. Even as the Fever close in on backcourt depth with Tyasha Harris, Caitlin Clark may have already dropped a hint about the franchise’s next move.

Uncertainty Surrounds Indiana Fever’s Next Move on Natasha Howard

Natasha Howard was the glue player for the Fever last season. She took more of a supportive role than she is used to. At Dallas, she averaged 30 minutes per game while averaging 17.6 points and 6.7 rebounds in the 2024 season. However, at Fever, she had a different role under White.

Though she started every game, Howard averaged 11.4 points and 6.4 rebounds while taking 7 fewer shots than in Dallas. Her defense and size were admired by White and she was an important voice in the locker room as a veteran. Yet, there is little news regarding her return to the franchise.

“I feel like I’m interested to see Natasha Howard too. It has been quiet around Natasha Howard,” Rachel DeMita said. “If she’s taking meetings elsewhere, if the Fever is still interested in keeping her or not, we haven’t heard anything.”

Howard was balling in the Chinese league, the WCBA for Sichuan, and was named the International Player of the Year. She did send a congratulatory message to Kelsey Mitchell after she re-signed with the Fever. There will be financial considerations for her signing too, as she earned $214,466 last year and will get a hefty pay raise correlating to that number. It will also depend on other offseason moves the Indiana Fever make.
