In just a matter of 24 hours, Arike Ogunbowale’s life took a 180-degree turn that no one saw coming. Right after starring in Mist’s victory over Phantom, where she scored 19 points to win her maiden Unrivaled trophy for the Mist (80-74), she got herself arrested at E11EVEN nightclub in Miami on a battery charge. It didn’t take long for the news to get media attention, and soon her parent club also jumped right in to comment about this matter.

“The Wings are aware of an incident involving Arike Ogunbowale and are in the process of gathering more information. Further comments will be provided once we have more details,” an official statement came from the Dallas Wings as they said they are keeping an eye on the incident.
Unrivaled, too, made an official statement on that matter.
“The league is aware of an incident involving Arike Ogunbowale and we are in the process of gathering additional information. We’re in contact with Arike and her representatives,” came the official response
The incident happened at a Miami nightclub where Arike was reportedly celebrating her victory. The altercation involved a man who is believed to have been punched by Ogunbowale, knocking him down in the process. She was 29 years old and at the peak of her professional success when this happened, bringing in some negative publicity in the process.
Apparently, Miami police responded to a call about a physical altercation inside the club. When officers arrived, they encountered a large crowd being escorted out by security. A security guy would then share with the police that while they were trying to remove Arike Ogunbowale from the scene because of a separate dispute, she ended up striking him in the face.
The dispute was reportedly caught on the club’s CCTV footage. So what does this do for Ogunbowale’s career?
What Comes Next in Ogunbowale’s Career?
Arike Ogunbowale has been a staple for the Dallas Wings since 2019 after she was drafted from Notre Dame. The same year, she won the national championship for the Fighting Irish. Overtime she has been a part of 224 career regular-season games, and she has averaged 19.9 points, 4.0 assists, and 3.2 rebounds per game.
Although Paige Buecker’s arrival did make it seem that her time with the Wings might now come to an end, despite her high personal statistic the team wasn’t able to get many wins. A 10-34 record last year and a 9-31 record the year prior certainly hinted that she may be going her separate way, more so now that she has become an unrestricted free agent in 2026 and is evaluating options.
This would be her eighth WNBA season, and which team will we get to see her represent is still a major question for many. But now things have taken a turn that many would keep a close eye on.

Battery charges in Florida levies a maximum penalty of one year in county jail and a $1,000 fine under Florida law, though outcomes vary considerably based on circumstances. Since being arrested, Arike has not issued any public statement, so there’s still some obscurity about what exactly led to that situation.
Notably, basketball’s rising star Paige Bueckers and fellow Wings player Aziaha James were also filmed at the club, celebrating the occasion at E11EVEN. But what proceeded next must have been hard for them to figure out as well.
For Arike’s sake, she would be looking to find reprieve and have everything sorted before the WNBA season starts, as this crash out might have adverse effects on her stock value, more so when she is looking for a fresh contract.
