When Napheesa Collier started a relationship with her husband Alex Bazzell it would have been difficult. Bazzell was her trainer during her stint with the UConn Huskies and their love transcended boundaries to take their relationship to another level. And now that co-founder of Through the Lens is the President of Phee and Stewie’s brainchild Unrivaled, the Minnesota Lynx star disclosed what their relationship is like.
On Friday’s episode of The Ringer WNBA Show, Collier reflected on her delicate relationship with Bazzell and how she navigates the path of being a trainee and also working with him.
On being about their relationship, Bazzell expressed that it was a delicate one. Meanwhile, Collier revealed, “I get disappointed when you don’t give me feedback. I know you’re thinking something, but you don’t say it.” This showed that despite being husband and wife, Collier has managed to maintain professional boundaries when working.

The 28-year-old met Bazzell when she was a high school senior and then he became her trainer when she was a freshman with the Huskies in 2015. From that point, Cupid stuck both and their relationship grew and the duo made it official by getting engaged in 2019. In May 2022, their love life took a new turn when they welcomed their first child Mila Sarah Bazzell.
They subsequently got married in October 2022 in a ceremony in St. Louis Missouri in the presence of her former UConn teammates. As of 2024, the Missouri-born decided to found a league along with her UConn teammate Breanna Stewart, and her husband Bazzell was appointed the first President of the 3×3 women’s basketball league.
Meanwhile, detailing Collier’s account of their relationship, Bazzell confirmed that “Phee really wants feedback.” Plus, he too listed that they have strict professional boundaries by enumerating that they believe in “delegating when we are partners, when we are working on business, when we are working on her game.” Meanwhile, in the same interview,w she also admitted that she had issues initially in their relationship.

As mentioned, when Collier started dating Bazzell, she was just in college. He was her personal trainer and considering the two were young, they would have had difficulties in maintaining boundaries. And the UConn-alum accepted the same. “It was hard at first because we started out in a trainer- trainee relationship first.”
However, they managed to maintain professionalism in their relationship, so much so that when Collier gave birth to her first child, she was extremely happy that Mila would get to meet “the athletes that Alex trains,” and “have them be around my teammates, and have 11 other aunts.” This proved that their respective careers were above any other thing in life, which has helped them reach their true potential.
Plus Bazzell is also involved in promoting the W through his company. The W this year reached new fans and broke viewership records. Therefore, the late Kobe Bryant’s friend is the perfect person to see the executive decisions of the newly founded Unrivaled. And Collier’s only supporting him as president confirms that Collier knows how to switch over to different roles in her relationship. Hopefully, the two will maintain a strong bond going forward and in their presence, Unrivaled can only grow and become a global phenomenon.
