Can the Chicago Sky make a deep playoff run without Angel Reese? What do you think?

The Chicago Sky were already struggling, winning 2 out of their 10 games when their main star Angel Reese incurred a wrist injury. This slimmed the Sky’s chance of making it to the playoffs. The Sky had previously suffered when their main offensive star Chennedy Carter’s four-game absence had put significant pressure on Reese. And now, after the Chi-Town Barbie’s injury, ESPN released a list in which the Sky’s probability of cementing the eighth and final WNBA playoff berth looked quite less. However, fans do not think so.

The latest release from ESPN showed the top 7 teams that have cemented their place in the playoffs, and the Sky and the Atlanta Dream who are vying for the eighth spot. As per the ESPN analysts, the Sky has a 56% chance whereas the Dream has 32%, with a 2-game winning and 2-game losing streak for the teams respectively.

Reese, during a game against the Los Angeles Sparks, faced a season-ending wrist injury supposedly after making a basket towards the end of the 3rd quarter. She also drew a foul from Li Yueru in doing so as she fell to the ground, with some pressure focused on her palms. The 22-year-old came live on her TikTok account to reveal that she would be undergoing surgery on Tuesday to avoid the chances of getting arthritis.

She is in a hard cast now, that is to last 4 weeks and will be followed up by a soft cast for 2 more. A significant loss for the struggling Sky.

Reese scored an average of 13.6 points per game with 13.1 rebounds per game, as a matter of which she tops the rebounding average in the league this season. Plus, her double-doubles had raised the bar as she had surpassed Candace Parker’s record for the most consecutive double-doubles. It is surely going to be a tough deal for the Sky, but the fans have their hopes.

The Windy City loyalists continue supporting the Chicago Sky.

Have an interesting take?

“Sky for sure,” one fan commented. The user was sure that the Chicago Sky would make the playoffs. Currently, the Sky are placed at the eighth spot, one above their competitors, Atlanta Dream. The two stand with 13 and 12 wins respectively. With 5 more games left in the regular season, the Sky would be squaring off against the Atlanta Dream next Tuesday.

“We’re here for Sky 💙💙,” another netizen commented. Though the Sky may be having a tough season, their loyal fans haven’t backed out. Their game against the Indiana Fever in August peaked with 1.92 million viewers, sending the message loud and clear.

“Man I was really hoping to see Angel in the playoffs man. But I’d love to watch Chen and Cardoso face the Liberty though,” another fan commented. Chennedy Carter, Angel Reese, and Kamilla Cardoso have been a reliable trio for the Sky, making the top 4 scorers in the team this season. Then in Carter’s absence, the South Carolina star took the reins in scoring, while also averaging an impressive 8-point rebound. So in the Chi-Town Barbie’s absence, we might have another duo to look out for as they face the No.1 seed if they were to qualify.

“Let’s go #skytown @chicagosky @kamilla_cardoso,” penned another. Cardoso was the third overall pick this WNBA draft by the Sky and has been a force with her 6’7 stature. Reese well acknowledges that. “She runs the floor really well… She catches passes, she makes baskets around the basket really fluently,” she had said as they broke the double-double record for a rookie duo. So the SKy still has its hopes and seemingly, so do the Dream fans.

“I think dream will get that last playoff spot,” a fan claimed. The Dream face the Mystics twice next, against whom they tie 1-1 this season. The Sky, on the other hand, faces the top-seeded, Minnesota Lynx, Connecticut Sun, and Pheonix Mercury. A challenge for sure, for the Sky.
