Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever recently saw their five-game winning streak snapped after losing to the Dallas Wings on Thursday. That loss, however, has not in any way shaken WNBA analyst Rachel DeMita’s belief that the team can go all the way, as she still believes the Fever have a strong chance of winning the WNBA championship this season.

Speaking on Friday’s episode of her Courtside Club podcast, DeMita even labelled this season as a “championship or bust” year for the Indiana Fever.
“There’s been a lot of focus on the Lynx, which there should be; they’ve been great. There’s been a lot of focus on the Aces obviously because they’re the reigning champs, but like I wanted to give some flowers to the Fever because, like, don’t be shocked. Some people will be shocked, but don’t be shocked if the Fever win this year. I think it’s championship or bust for the Fever.”
Despite losing their latest game against the Wings, the Fever are currently still seated in fourth place in the league standings with a 24-13 record. They have also officially secured a spot in the 2026 WNBA playoffs, thanks to the ninth-seeded Portland Fire losing 82-79 to the Toronto Tempo.
And perhaps that’s quite enough reason to give some of their key players a rest, as even their loss against the Wings had a little to do with fatigue after playing three back-to-back road games. Some key players are, however, already in doubt about being present in their next game against the New York Liberty. Aliyah Boston has been downgraded to questionable on the injury report.
Meanwhile, Caitlin Clark, who is listed as probable due to her season-long back issue, is expected to play through it against New York. Caitlin Clark and Aliyah Boston have been two of the most valuable pieces for the Indiana Fever all season. And together with Kelsey Mitchell, their trio is the major reason why WNBA analyst Rachel DeMita believes the Fever can go all the way.
And looking at the performance and output of these players, it’s quite easy to see why DeMita thinks that. Mitchell and Clark are currently second (24.6) and third (21.7) in the league in points scored per game, while Caitlin Clark ranks number one in assists. Clark is averaging 21.7 points, 8.3 assists, and 3.8 rebounds per game. Mitchell, meanwhile, is averaging 24.6 points, 2.7 assists, and 1.7 rebounds per game. Aliyah Boston has also been equally important, averaging 16.9 points, 2.9 assists, and 8.6 rebounds per game.
The Indiana Fever now have seven games left in the 2026 WNBA regular season. After that, it’s the playoffs, where they will now have to show whether or not they can win the championship. Hopefully, they will not be affected by any injuries at that time.
It’s been 14 years since the franchise last won the championship. Maybe it’s really a win-or-bust, like DeMita said.
