Even after repeatedly saying she loves being in Indiana, Caitlin Clark can’t really seem to escape the rumor mill. Only recently, media personality Jason Whitlock made a bombshell claim that the Indiana Fever were planning to trade Clark to the Los Angeles Sparks. That X post racked up more than 2.2 million views! Add in the mix of the heated exchange Clark had with coach Stephanie White, and the rumor of her going to Sparks suddenly got legs. Fans started to connect the dots whether or not they were there. But not everyone thinks there is any truth behind it.

”I personally don’t think that would be a good fit for her,” WNBA analyst Rachel DeMita said speaking in a Thursday Courtside Club YouTube video. In fact, she said she was actually “baffled” not only by the rumor itself but by the number of fans actively supporting the hypothetical move. Whitlock, however, has continued to lean into the narrative.

Right after linking Clark to the Sparks, he came to claim that Indiana’s win over the Washington Mystics felt like the beginning of the end.
“That last Fever game against the Washington Mystics felt like an ending to Caitlin Clark’s career, either playing for Stephanie White and/or playing for the Indiana Fever,” Jason Whitlock said in the latest episode of Fearless. Ironically, it was also the game in which Clark drilled a last-minute three-pointer to secure the win for Indiana.
Moreover, the rumor became big enough for a public clash to happen between two media personalities. Basketball analyst Jeff Goodman openly challenged Whitlock’s report on X, writing: “Jason Whitlock trying to break news for the first time in his life. This should age well.”
That jab triggered back and forth between him and Whitlock. DeMita, moreover, doesn’t even think that Sparks is ideal for Caitlin Clark tactically. In fact, for her, Sparks head coach Lynne Roberts is not the right fit for Clark.
“I don’t think that’s a good coach for her,” DeMita said. For her, if by any miracle Clark does join the Sparks, the organization would have to undergo a major overhaul, particularly in the way it plays. “Maybe if they overhauled or started to play completely different.”
Whitlock also specifically framed the move as a major business decision that could be beneficial for the broader WNBA framework. Regardless, none of that makes sense to DeMita.
“There is no validity to the rumor that Caitlin Clark is going to be traded to Los Angeles. There’s zero validity to it,” she said till the very end. In fact she thinks that things have gotten too out of control with all the rumors.
Rachel DeMita Criticizes Fever Rumor Culture
Everything around the Indiana Fever and Caitlin Clark seems to come with a hidden narrative or discourse these days. Whether it’s discussions about the team’s coaching situation, locker room, or Clark’s future. Every moment just appears to spark another round of speculation. For Rachel DeMita, that has become a bit much.
“Some of the discourse has gotten to the point of obsession,” she said. Still speaking on Thursday’s episode of her Courtside Club, DeMita pointed to the Fever’s recent game against the Washington Mystics as an example.
Caitlin Clark hit a three-pointer with 2.5 seconds remaining to seal the victory. But according to DeMita, instead of simply celebrating the win and appreciating the moment, many people immediately started reading unwarranted meaning into the smallest details surrounding the game.
In fact, according to DeMita, it is beginning to look like “people are trying to solve a murder mystery.” Rather than focusing on the basketball itself, she believes the conversation has drifted elsewhere.
“Instead of just celebrating, the conversation goes from schemes that happened in the game, and Caitlyn Clark’s body language,” she said.
DeMita understands that these narratives, which she described as a “doomsday attitude,” attract attention and generate engagement. That may be why some continue to push them. But she feels the situation has now reached a point where it has become excessive. “I feel like for the past couple weeks, it’s truly gotten out of control,” she said.
Perhaps if the Fever starts stacking more wins, these conversations will eventually die down.
