This season, the Los Angeles Sparks greatly missed the sharpshooter, Lexie Brown. For Brown, the 2023 season has not been without its difficulties. With 11 starts, she created an impression in just 12 games. She was unfortunately sidelined for five weeks of action in June and July due to a string of surgeries that hindered her season. Despite attempting a comeback in July, her return was short-lived, with her ending her season for good with three games that month.

Recently, the player made headlines, but not for her moves on the court. The LA Sparks player is deeply disappointed with the NBA 2K24.

In a recent video, Lexie Brown didn’t mince words when expressing her disappointment with NBA 2K for her character’s appearance on the latest edition of the game, NBA 2K24. Lexie, currently a key player for the Los Angeles Sparks, didn’t hold back her frustration.

“If you are going to include us, include us,” Brown said. “We (WNBA players) are featured in NBA 2K. We’ve been in 2K the last two or three 2Ks. And everything has been fine. We’ve got face scans that make us look okay… For whatever reason this year, they said fu** the WNBA. Cause, look at my player…”

Lexie Brown then showed an image of her character in the game. She continued, “Just leave us out the game if you don’t even want to try, y’all could at least look at me.”

The game didn’t do justice to the player. She even replied to a tweet that shared an overall view of the player, writing, “The 360 of the bald head is INSANE.”

The Connecticut Sun drafted Lexie Brown as the ninth overall pick in 2018. She was then traded to the Minnesota Lynx and is now a member of the Los Angeles Sparks. The Sparks had a challenging season this year, but Brown significantly improved, averaging a career-high 12.4 points per game and shooting 48.6 % from the field and 41.5 % from three-point range.

Unfortunately, she missed out on a major chunk of her 2023 season due to a non-covid illness which forced her to sit out in late August.

With a 17-23 record at the end of the regular season, it is clear that the team has some work to do in the summer. Meanwhile, why was Lexie Brown out for the season?

Lexie Brown comments on her illness

In a recent interview, Los Angeles Sparks guard Lexie Brown discussed her difficult struggle with a bacterial infection that kept her out of the WNBA for the majority of the season. Due to the bacterial infection, the 28-year-old athlete was sidelined for a substantial chunk of the season, missing 28 of 40 games.

As the illness was perilously close to becoming septic, Brown disclosed that she had to undergo her first operation in mid-June. Despite making her first appearance on the court for three games in July, she experienced complications and needed a second operation, which basically ended her season. She still needs to have one more surgery before she can move forward.

Brown had her eyes set on returning to the sport she loves. Unfortunately, she was often unable to go to games, practices, or even leave her apartment because of the pain from the infection and surgery.

With a career-high average of 12.4 points per game, 2.1 rebounds and 2.4 assists in her 12 games this season, Brown showed up for her team despite going through a remarkably trying time in her life. The player remains optimistic, stating, “I see the light at the end of the tunnel. I need to start visualizing positivity more, so: I will be healthy for next season.”
