Angel Reese’s interview with the Chicago Tribune sent shockwaves through the basketball world. Some applauded her honesty, while others questioned her timing and motives. The fallout grew heated enough for the Chicago Sky to suspend their star for the first half of a matchup against the Las Vegas Aces. Soon after, rumors about a potential split between Reese and the franchise began to swirl.

In the interview, Reese was clear: she wanted the front office to build a competitive roster around her. Though she expressed her desire to spend her entire career in Chicago, she also warned that she might have to move in a different direction if the situation didn’t improve by the 2026 WNBA season. According to FOS reporter Annie Costabile, those remarks didn’t sit well with her teammates and created tension in the locker room. As Costabile further reported, that left some sources to believe her future in Chicago may not be salvageable.
Meanwhile, fans lit up social media with reactions, with some even drafting mock trade scenarios for where Reese could land next.

One fan-crafted trade scenario even pulled the upcoming expansion team, the Portland Fire, into the mix. In this proposal, Reese would head to Portland in exchange for a 2026 first-round pick, plus second- and third-round picks in 2027. Whether or not the Sky would ever entertain such an offer is debatable, but what’s important to note is that Reese herself hasn’t officially requested a trade. She’s only hinted at the possibility. Also, it is important to note that Reese still has one year left on her contract, along with a club option for 2027.

Just a day after her interview came out, Angel Reese released a statement apologizing to the team. However, that apology seemed to do little to quash these rumors as the social media is still buzzing with fans’ opinions about the whole scenario. Another chapter was written in this saga as Courtney Vandersloot seems to have taken a dig at Angel Reese’s comments about her age.
Anyway, if the Sky does put her on the trade block this offseason, the Dallas Wings might be a better fit.

Why the Dallas Wings would be glad to have Angel Reese
The Wings began the 2025 season with Teaira McCowan and NaLyssa Smith, but both have since moved on, leaving gaps in the frontcourt. Players like Myisha Hines-Allen, Luisa Geiselsoder, and Li Yueru have stepped in to fill those roles, yet the team still lacks a true star forward. Enter Angel Reese. While her shooting efficiency leaves room for improvement, her impact on the court goes far beyond scoring. At 6’3″, she is a dominant rebounder, which would only strengthen Dallas’ already impressive rebounding numbers. The Wings ranked fourth in the league in 2025 with 35 boards per game.
Pairing Reese with Bueckers could be the spark the Wings need. Bueckers is an elite pick-and-roll facilitator, and having a forward like Reese alongside her would create a dynamic duo with long-term potential. Both are the same age, giving general manager Curt Miller two young stars to build around. Ogunbowale remains part of the picture, but with her free agency looming, there’s no guarantee she’ll stay. Even so, a core of Bueckers and Reese, or all three together, would give Dallas a foundation that would signal to potential free agents that the Wings are a franchise on the rise.
