What was meant to be the start of a comeback unravelled really quickly at Unrivaled as the Indiana Fever guard took to the court for the first time in 5 months. Aari McDonald featured for Team Breeze only for a few minutes before heading straight into the dressing room mid-game. The 27-year-old has now provided a much-awaited update after an early exit from her Unrivaled game representing Team Breeze.

The Fever guard looked shaky from the beginning for Team Breeze against Team Phantom. During one of her charges towards the basket, Aari was fouled near the rim, sending her to the free-throw line. However, soon after, the 27-year-old was subbed off and headed straight into the dressing room, not coming out for the entirety of the match.

Fans were further concerned after Aari was not even pictured coming out for team pictures after Team Breeze’s winning start in Unrivaled League Season 2. Aari has now come out with an update on social media platform X. The Fever guard tweeted that the injury scare last night was nothing to be worried about.

This will come as huge relief to Indiana Fever fans, who have seen Aari be sidelined for the last 5 months due to a broken bone in her right foot.

Caitlin Clark led a flurry of names missing for the injury-riddled Indiana Fever. Aari McDonald was signed on a Hardship Exception deal to combat the injury issues plaguing the roster before being given a rest-of-the-season deal.

But the defensive guard ended up getting injured soon after. The Indiana-based franchise still put up quite a show, missing an WNBA Finals appearance in a narrow 3-2 series defeat to the Las Vegas Aces.

The fans were eager to see Aari return to action after her long road to recovery. However, the injury scare will serve as a reminder of just how careful the Fever guard has to be before she regains full fitness.

Aari McDonald and Her Upcoming Contract Dilemma

Aari McDonald had her redemption arc in full flow at the Indiana Fever. In Caitlin Clark’s absence, the team relied on Aari, who delivered immediately, averaging just under 10 points and 5 assists respectively before her right foot injury.

The 27-year-old only had a rest-of-the-season contract at the Indiana Fever, which means she is currently without a contract heading into the Offseason. Her performance while being fit at Indiana has earned her plaudits and attention ahead of her crucial contract decision.

Aari is likely to have more than a few options, with speculation that she could end up at one of the WNBA Expansion Teams in Portland and Toronto.

The 27-year-old will bring years of experience and could be a valuable addition to a new project for either of the Expansion Teams.

The Indiana Fever is also likely to be interested. However, they already have a lot of other areas to fill quality in, which will make Aari more of an afterthought rather than an immediate priority in the offseason for the Indiana-based franchise.

Teams like the Los Angeles Sparks and the Atlanta Dream, both of which Aari has previously played for, will have a significant salary cap space available and may opt to bring the defensive guard back to add depth to their roster.

However, Aari will need to be careful not to attempt a hasty return to action before being fully fit and confident to take to the courts.

An extension or recurrence of the injury could significantly dampen her chances of earning a contract of choice when the teams come calling.
