The Indiana Fever may have walked away from Friday night with another heartbreaking loss, but most fans left the game talking about Caitlin Clark’s heroics and Aliyah Boston’s injury scare. However, amid all that, one quiet Kelsey Mitchell observation has now started raising concerns.

In what turned out to be one of the most chaotic games of the early 2026 WNBA season, the Fever battled the Washington Mystics in a back-and-forth thriller that eventually ended in a painful 104-102 overtime defeat. In the game, Clark exploded with 32 points and forced overtime with a clutch late three-pointer, while Mitchell once again played a major role on the offense by adding 24 points of her own.
Yet after the game, Fever insider Scott Agness pointed out something that many fans may have failed to notice.
“Kelsey Mitchell seemed to be bothered by a left hip, at least later in the game,” Agness said. “Didn’t hear from her postgame, but definitely something I’ll keep an eye on and follow up on here moving forward.”

While neither the Fever nor Kelsey Mitchell herself has provided any official update regarding a possible injury concern, even the thought of her dealing with discomfort is enough to raise eyebrows, especially considering what she went through just last season.
During Indiana’s 2025 semifinal Game 5 matchup against the Las Vegas Aces, Mitchell suddenly left the game midway through the third quarter after she felt what was later described as a “numbness/paralyzing feeling” in her legs.
Afterwards, they revealed that the Fever star suffered from rhabdomyolysis, a serious condition caused by muscle breakdown and extreme physical stress. Even Mitchell revealed that her body “locked up” physically before fatigue and cramping completely took over.
That situation became one of the scariest injury moments this franchise had to deal with during an already injury-filled season. Now, that history is what makes Agness’ recent observation feel important, even without any confirmed injury update from the team.
The Fever are already dealing with uncertainty around Boston after the star center exited Friday’s game with a lower-leg injury and was later listed as questionable for the next game. So the last thing they would want right now is another situation involving one of its core players.
But at the same time, it is also important not to jump to conclusions too early. Long games, overtime minutes, fatigue, and physical contact can often leave players dealing with temporary soreness or discomfort. So, considering how the Fever vs Mystics was, that might be just it.
Still, being such a massive player in Indiana’s offense, this is clearly a situation worth monitoring.
Why the Fever Cannot Afford to Lose Kelsey Mitchell?
After opening the regular season with a 30-point performance against the Dallas Wings, the Fever guard followed it up with another strong outing against the Los Angeles Sparks (23 points) before adding 24 against Washington.
Her aggressive scoring ability has become a major reason why Indiana’s offense still looks dangerous even while the team struggles defensively.

The Dallas Wings defeated the Indiana Fever, 107-104.
Mitchell looks confident attacking downhill, comfortable creating her own shot, and far more consistent than many expected before the season began. More importantly, she has helped take pressure off Clark by giving the Fever another elite scoring threat.
So if Agness’ observation turns out to be something more serious, the offensive responsibility would suddenly fall almost entirely on Clark, who is still working her way back into full rhythm herself. While Indiana does have multiple guards on the roster, very few bring the same level of shot creation, experience, and scoring consistency that Mitchell provides night after night.
Though, for now, there is still no indication that Kelsey Mitchell is dealing with anything serious. But after everything this franchise experienced with injuries last season, this is clearly one situation Fever fans will be paying very close attention to over the next few days.
