Candace Parker entered the league with high hopes, being selected as the first pick in the 2008 WNBA draft. During her first year in the league, Parker made her presence felt in the Los Angeles Sparks, joining only one day after bagging an NCAA title. Fifteen years after playing in the league, she still continues to make her presence felt with the Las Vegas Aces.

Recently, her Las Vegas Aces teammate, A’ja Wilson roasted the 37-year-old while celebrating a career-defining accomplishment.

Candace Parker made WNBA history on October 3rd, 2008, by being the first player in the WNBA to win the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award and Rookie of the Year in the same season. With this achievement, she joined Wilt Chamberlain who pulled off the same in the 1959–60 NBA season.

Parker had stiff competition for the MVP award from both Connecticut’s outstanding player Lindsay Whalen and her own teammate, Lisa Leslie. Parker stood out, though, thanks to her consistently excellent season-long play. She topped the league in rebounds with 17 double-doubles while averaging 18.5 points and 9.5 rebounds per game. She also outperformed the rookie class in terms of points scored, blocks (2.3 bpg) and minutes played (33.6 mpg).

Candace Parker’s accomplishment made in 2008 still remains under her name as she is the only WNBA player to have bagged the ROTY and the MVP award in the same season.

Meanwhile, will she be returning for the 2023 WNBA Finals?

Will Candace Parker return this season?

The Las Vegas Aces and the New York Liberty are scheduled to face off in the Finals this Sunday for a spectacular finish to the 2023 WNBA season, fulfilling the long-held prediction of basketball fans throughout the world. The Las Vegas Aces emerged as record breakers during the regular season with a staggering 34-6 record, earning them the coveted No. 1 overall seed. Their playoff run has been historic, easily defeating the Dallas Wings in the semifinals and the Chicago Sky in the first round.

The New York Liberty, meanwhile, set a stunning franchise record during the regular season with 32 victories, making it the second-highest total in WNBA history. However, their journey was marked by cut-throat competition. Despite the difficulties, they swept the Washington Mystics in the preliminary round and defeated the mighty Connecticut Sun in four games in the semifinals.

The stakes are high for both teams as they approach the Finals. The Las Vegas Aces are aiming for the rare back-to-back titles, and the signing of superstar Candace Parker during the summer only increased their title hopes. Parker’s season, however, took a dismal turn in July when she had to undergo foot surgery to treat a fracture.

Despite her foot fracture, Candace Parker persevered and made 18 starts for the Aces, averaging 9.0 points and 5.4 rebounds per game. However, she underwent surgery in July and hasn’t graced the courts yet. Despite this, she has been a source of support for her teammates, often showing up on the sidelines during the games.

As for her return, it is unlikely that she will play in the WNBA Finals with no updates from either the team or the league. Do you think the Aces will be able to pull off a victory without Candace Parker? Let us know in the comments below!
