“I just have to be better with my language because I know it’s not the message, it’s the messenger.” After a disastrous regular season, the last thing that Chicago needed was Angel Reese’s explosive interview. The ‘Bayou Barbie’ had a list of demands towards the franchise heading into the off-season, and the cherry on top? A call-out to some of her teammates, and a not-so-subtle threat to leave Chicago if she doesn’t see an improvement in the team.

As expected, there was a significant backlash following the interview. Calling your teammates out on a public stage is not good for the locker room dynamics. The six-foot-two forward did apologise to her teammates after Chicago’s win over Connecticut last week, but it might be too little too late! With rumors buzzing over a potential move away from the Windy City for AR, WNBA legend Candace Parker had her own piece to say.

On the Post Moves podcast with Indiana Fever’s Aliyah Boston, Parker shared a similar incident from her own career in which her family tweeted against the organization she was playing for. Her takeaway? “I think the best advice that I ever received was to keep things in the house. You can yell, scream, cuss, do all those things in between these walls, but you can’t bring it out. And once that happens, it’s hard to gain that trust back.” She said, admonishing the young star for how she publicized the situation.

Although fans are gunning for a quick resolution, it might be wise to wait for this season to end. “I don’t know if she’s going to play in their final game. And I think the off-season will be a great chance for the organization and her to get on the same page.” Candace Parker said, recommending the Chicago Sky forward to brave the storm.

Not just Parker, even fellow WNBA players are criticizing the Sky forward for her controversial interview.

Indiana Fever star discourages Angel Reese’s Chicago Sky controversy

Some teams in the league pride themselves on being a tight, cohesive unit. So it doesn’t matter if you win or lose; what matters is how you play the game and the way you respect your teammates. And considering everything Angel Reese said about Courtney Vandersloot and Ariel Atkins, the Chicago Sky center was bound to get dozens of call-outs.

One of these complaints stemmed from injured Indiana Fever star Sophie Cunningham. We see the six-foot-one guard as an ‘enforcer’ or a ‘defender’, but none of that happens if Cunningham doesn’t put the team first, and that’s the point she tried to get across on her podcast.

What’s your perspective on:

Did Angel Reese's public call-out cross the line, or was it a necessary wake-up call?

On the latest episode of Show Me Something, Cunningham talked about what Reese did. “It’s not great. There’s just some things that you can’t say. I’m a very team-first type of person. I always put the team before my feelings, and I think that should be a standard. You got to protect your locker room.” She said, pulling no punches about what actually happened.

Angel Reese’s situation in Chicago has progressively worsened ever since her conversation with the Chicago Tribune. She got suspended for half a game against the Suns, with the looming threat of stricter punishment on the horizon. On top of that, fans and analysts alike have been predicting moves away from Chicago for AR. It remains to be seen what the next steps will be taken by the Chi-Town Barbie and the Chicago Sky after this fallout.
