A’ja Wilson wasn’t kidding when she dropped the ‘Thanos’ line after winning the WNBA championship title. And if you have been following her journey, you know she earned it. The 6-foot-4 Las Vegas Aces player was also named TIME’s 2025 Athlete of the Year. But her latest offseason feat proves that her dominance is now extending far beyond the court and onto fashion’s biggest stage.

Vogue recently reported that Wilson has been selected as part of the 2026 Met Gala Host Committee, alongside Sabrina Carpenter, Doja Cat, and many more, to help shape the event’s creative vision, guide the guest experience, and represent this year’s theme. This isn’t the first time an influential women’s sports figure has served on this committee, as tennis veteran Serena Williams did in 2019 and Angel Reese did this year (2025). Wilson is now only the second WNBA player to do so.

The Aces star’s most recent WNBA campaign was nothing short of historic because, just like Thanos was securing the Infinity Stones, the Aces star was securing all the possible titles. She became the first player in WNBA or NBA history to achieve the following in a single season:

  • WNBA Championship Winner – Led the Las Vegas Aces to their third title in four seasons.

  • 4th WNBA MVP – Cementing her status as one of the greatest players in the league’s history.

  • Finals MVP – Dominated when it mattered most in the playoffs.

  • Defensive Player of the Year – A force on both ends of the court.

  • Scoring Title – Averaging 23.4 points, 10.2 rebounds, and 3.1 assists per game.

“I’m on my way there,” the Aces star said of her GOAT status pursuit. “I’m making it real hard for people to chase after me.”

The 2026 Met Gala will spotlight the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s spring Costume Institute exhibition, “Costume Art.” It will bring together top names from entertainment, fashion, and sports. This year’s co-chairs include Beyoncé, making her first Met appearance in a decade, Nicole Kidman, Venus Williams, and Anna Wintour, promising a night of iconic fashion, star power, and cultural influence.

A’ja Wilson’s path hasn’t been easy. Growing up near Columbia, South Carolina, she used to avoid basketball, as her interests lay in piano and ballet. But if we know her as the athlete she is today, it’s all thanks to her father, Roscoe Wilson Jr., a former All-American college basketball player. He played professionally in Europe. He saw potential in her due to her height and long arms and consistently pushed her to develop her skills, even when she resisted as a child.

And years later, from rewriting WNBA history to stepping onto the Met Gala stage as a host committee member, Wilson herself said she’s only just getting started… But the Aces star recently found herself in the crosshairs of quite a bit of social media criticism. But has that stopped her?

A’ja Wilson claps back at backlash after talking about Caitlin Clark

After the recent comments she made about Clark’s meteoric rise and the importance of preserving the league’s history, a part of the 2024 ROTY’s fanbase has accused Wilson of being dismissive or resentful.

But not being someone to take disrespect quietly, Wilson didn’t stay silent.

“You can always tell who reads articles for joy and better understanding of something or someone vs. who reads articles just to look for something they disagree on or to “stir up” stuff 😂 it’s crazy out here! Y’all be blessed 🤍,” Wilson posted on Threads on December 9.

She clarified that her words weren’t an attack on Clark, but a reminder to acknowledge the Black women who built the WNBA and ensure their contributions weren’t erased.

But regardless of the chatter online, Wilson remains one of the best players women’s basketball has ever seen, and she continues to change the sport as a whole while being the truest version of herself.
