Sports columnist Skip Bayless is not impressed by Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark despite her being named the WNBA Eastern Conference Player of the Week for the third time this season. For Bayless, it was a pointed reminder of what he considers an absurd outcome based on the league-wide guard ranking. He elaborated on the same on his X feed.

“Somehow the player who finished 11th among guards in All-Star voting by rival players just won her third Eastern Conference Player of the Week award this season. Go figure.”
Clark scored 77 total points across three games, averaging 25.6 points per game in the week. She led the entire WNBA with 27 total assists across the week, averaging nine per game. She also recorded her fourth career triple-double in the process, against the Portland Fire.
This is not an isolated performance spike. Even at the time of the All-Star player votes release, Caitlin Clark was averaging 21.2 points and 8.2 assists per game. That ranks fourth overall in the entire WNBA in scoring and second overall in assists per game, according to a July 2 report by Sports Illustrated. The production was already there. The peer recognition, it seems, was not.
With numbers like that as context, it is entirely understandable why Bayless found the All-Star player voting difficult to accept, as he mentioned in his X post.
Last year, she even broke the league’s all-time fan voting record with 1.29 million votes. Despite overwhelming fan support, WNBA players once again ranked her ninth.
But the performances and accolades continue to speak for themselves. With this award, Caitlin Clark has now won the Player of the Week honor six times in her career. That makes her the only Fever player to win the award six or more times alongside Tamika Catchings.
During the 2026 All-Star game scored 17 points, along with notching five assists and four rebounds. She was the third-best scorer behind Jonquel Jones (22 points) and Allisha Gray (19 points) on Team Spoon. Jones eventually went on to win the All-Star MVP award, but Clark’s hefty production contributed greatly to the team’s success.
Through 26 games in the 2026 season, Caitlin Clark is averaging 21.5 points, eight assists, and four rebounds per game. Her production has been central to the Fever’s fifth position in the WNBA standings, with a record of 19-11. With a crucial matchup against the Las Vegas Aces next on the schedule, the Fever will once again be counting on their franchise star to continue the level of play that has made her one of the league’s most decorated performers this season.
