A’ja Wilson became a superhero, more than she already is. The 4-time All-Star turned up to the media day interview in a red hairstyle inspired by an X-Men character. “This [year], we kind of went with the Jean Grey-type of vibe from X-Men. She is a superhero that is pretty, pretty powerful,” Wilson said. In the comics, she wiped out universes and dominated the galaxy. That does sound like A’ja Wilson. Even when it came to the CBA, Wilson was hungry for more.

“I have to give all the thanks to our EC. They did an incredible job of speaking for us when we couldn’t be in the room,” Wilson told the media. “Also, the united front we kept was something truly special.” However, at the same time, Wilson does not want to lose this trajectory, as she wants even greater things for the league.

“I’m grateful, but I’m greedy. This is just the beginning. I don’t want us to be satisfied. At the same time, I’m happy, blessed, and pleased with the work we’ve put in, but it was due. It’s our time, and I want a little bit more for us,” she said. “I don’t care who has anything to say about that, but I’m also very thankful to be part of a league that is so united.

The WNBA had its highest pay rise in its history. They went from a $66,079 minimum to $270,000. That is more than the supermax in the previous CBA. Wilson herself inked a historic three-year, $5 million supermax deal.  The rise is clearly monumental and Wilson wants the graph to continue trending upwards.

This CBA deal is set to run through 2032, a 7-year agreement. Players or the league can opt out after 2031, potentially leading to new negotiations for 2032 or beyond. And there are still things the league could achieve by then to get leverage for the next round of negotiations. For example, the talent pool must rise.

If we look at the NBA, the WNBA historically only has very few draft picks who end up staying in the league long term. With the spots rising in the expansion, the talent should too. Then, the international market is an untapped one. Last few years have seen many international players and fans coming in and succeeding.

The likes of Dominique Malonga and Awa Fam now dominate the headlines. If the league succeeds in getting that audience, it could grow further. And all this ties back to A’ja Wilson, who is the inspiration of the next generation. Fam has observed Wilson’s game and her “greediness” is one of the things that inspires others. Wilson’s Nike shoes are selling out quickly as well. She is still in her prime and could solidify her Goat status in the coming years. That starts with another Championship after winning three already.

A’ja Wilson Awaiting “A Dog Fight Every Night” Ahead Of Las Vegas Title Defense

There was a question fans and analysts have been asking regarding this Las Vegas Aces team: “How much longer can they dominate?” They have now won 3 trophies in the last four years. It seemed like their reign was over during the first half of last season but the veterans fired back in the second half with a winning streak till the end of the regular season.

The 2025 title win marked an exclamation point to their dynasty. But the same question arises as the new season dawns. “Can they really do it again?” New talent or even the expectation doesn’t faze A’ja Wilson.

“I don’t think it’s difficult at all. I think we want the league to be talented. We want it to be a dogfight every single night because that’s what makes us great. That’s what makes the product that people want to watch and support,” Wilson said. “I don’t think it’s going to be a problem. It’s going to be a problem every year because someone is taking what’s already in our house, and we have to do everything we can to defend it.”

The front office has basically changed nothing in this offseason. They retained their big 3 of Wilson, Jackie Young and Chelsea Gray. They brought back Jewell Loyd, NaLyssa Smith, Dana Evans and Cheyenne Parker Tyus. The interesting addition is Chennedy Carter who has had some issues in the locker room but is a talented guard. So, it feels they are locked and loaded to defend their crown with everything they have.
