Notre Dame guard Hannah Hidalgo, the reigning Naismith and WBCA Defensive Player of the Year, was spotted at the NBA Summer League. Hidalgo, who is widely expected to be a top pick for the 2027 WNBA draft, drew attention not because of how good a season she had but due to her choice of sneakers, indicating a possible path in Angel Reese’s footsteps.

“@hannah.hidalgo3 was spotted wearing the Reebok Club C Geo at Summer League. Hidalgo is currently a sneaker free agent,” the Bleacher Report Kicks Instagram handle posted with images of Hidalgo’s all-white pair.

Someone on Hannah Hidalgo’s resume is unlikely to remain a sneaker free agent, especially in a market where Nike, Adidas, Reebok and Puma have bagged sponsorship deals with the WNBA’s biggest stars. So after being spotted wearing Reeboks, speculation ran high that Hidalgo may join Reese in the future.

The Atlanta Dream star signed an exclusive deal with them early in her college career in 2023. Following her historic 2024 WNBA rookie season, Reebok and Reese signed a multi-year extension, and Reese has since launched her own personal exclusive line, the Angel Reese 1 (AR1).

Hannah Hidalgo, who is regarded as one of the best two-way players in college basketball, has played in regular Nikes and Jordans for Notre Dame, which is an official Nike school. She is also known as a sneakerhead with an extensive, dedicated shoe wall in her personal space to showcase her massive lifestyle and basketball sneaker collection.

Additionally, last year she announced a major NIL partnership with Coach for their SoHo sneakers. The partnership was famously announced on social media and coincided with Hidalgo setting a personal record milestone. Just hours after that, she broke the NCAA D-I single-game steals record.

With Hidalgo putting up record numbers across the board, signing her this early in her career would be a major steal for any leading brand.

Hannah Hidalgo Remains A Top Prospect For The 2027 Draft

Hidalgo has established herself as an elite two-way player. She averaged 25.3 points, 5.6 steals, 6.9 rebounds and 5.2 assists per game in the 2025-26 season. She became the only Division I player, regardless of gender, since the 1999–2000 season to maintain these numbers across a full year.

She is the first player in Notre Dame program history to be named a USBWA All-American three times. She set the NCAA single-season record for steals, with 202, and holds the Division I single-game record with 16 steals in one game.

She has already earned the Naismith and WBCA Defensive Player of the Year awards, and ACC Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year honors.

In fact, The Athletic writer Sabrina Merchant believes Hidalgo is a more complete player than other top prospects, including JuJu Watson and Madison Booker, with only one disadvantage.

“Size is the only thing working against Hidalgo because the production arguably outpaces everyone else in this class. She is the preeminent ball hawk in college basketball, often simply deciding to take possessions away from opponents,” Merchant wrote in April.

Despite the height disadvantage, Merchant still thinks that there are plenty of signs that Hidalgo can continue to shine at the WNBA level.

“Her success at the international level suggests she can keep doing this in the WNBA, but she slots in at third just because of the height/length of Watkins and Booker.”

Needless to say, the fans remain eager to see where she lands next in the WNBA and which sneaker brand she ultimately ends up signing with.
