The New York Liberty continues its dominance over the league. Last year, it was the ultimate prize, the WNBA Championship. This year, they dominated Friday night at the WNBA All-Star competitions. First, it was Natasha Cloud who won the Skills Challenge in a thrilling 1.1-second margin win over Erica Wheeler. Merely minutes after, her teammate Sabrina Ionescu recaptured her 3-point contest crown. 

Though this time around, it wasn’t the historic 37-point night, Sabrina managed to become only the second player in league history to win more than one 3-point contest. She also became one of the only two players to have multiple 30-point performances at the contest. So what was Ionescu awarded for it? 

How Much did Sabrina Ionescu win in the WNBA All-Star Challenge 2025?

If we really think about it, Sabrina never really lost her 2023 contest title. In 2024, she participated in a historic shoot-off against the greatest shooter of all time, Stephen Curry. Though Sabrina Ionescu did lose narrowly that night, she scored more points than any of the 3-Point contestants did. That too, with the same ball and the same 3-point line. But the Liberty icon wasn’t satisfied. She returned to the very same place to seek redemption. 

“The last time I was here in Indiana against Steph, I lost. So I feel like I had to come back and redeem myself,” she said following the victory. So now with the trophy in the hands of its rightful owner, let us look at the prize money for the 2025 3-Point Challenge.

Front Office Sports reporter, Colin Salao, broke down the amount on his tweet announcing the result. It read, “ Sabrina Ionescu gets $62,575 for winning the 3PT Contest: – $2,575 from WNBA – $60K from Aflac, a WNBPA partner.”

According to Colin Salao, Sabrina would get this prize money from two sources. The league would pay $25,75. While the second avenue would be a league sponsor, Aflac, with the insurance company contributing $60,000 to the prize money. However, Sabrina will not keep any prize money with her. 

The Liberty star gets generous

According to ESPN’s Alexa Philippou, Sabrina Ionescu decided to give half of her prize money to Sonia Citron. The Washington Mystics rookie was one of the fellow challengers and finished the contest with 19 points. However, the Liberty guard wanted to reward the rookie’s heart. With Citron being the only first-year player to take part in the contest, Sabrina understood the nervousness. 

“Just for participating, that takes a lot of courage to be able to do that as a rookie and what she did, and I was really proud of her,” she expressed.

The rest of her winnings are going to her charity foundation, SI20. The organization aims to provide youth from all backgrounds with equal access to sports. The league is finally in a great place and vets like Sabrina Ionescu are setting a trail for the younger generation.
