Sheryl Swoopes couldn’t care less about the fans’ criticism. As it’s a crucial time in the women’s professional basketball league, debates are raging over who will clinch the MVP or MIP honor. The WNBA legend recently surprised many by naming Sabrina Ionescu as her pick for the Most Improved Player of the Year. However, it seems netizens aren’t ready to accept such a bold and unconventional opinion, leading to criticism of the 3X WNBA MVP. In response, Swoopes was quick to clap back at the critics.

Addressing comments that labeled her opinion as biased, Swoopes challenged the netizens, asking that if all they have is criticism, they shouldn’t bother listening to what she has to say. Why are y’all here if you don’t like me or what I have to say? I ain’t losing no sleep over what yall have to say. Bye,” Swoopes wrote.

Fans continued to express their opinions in the comments section of an Instagram post featuring a clip from the show. While one netizen expressed high regard for Swoopes, they also voiced frustration over what they thought to be a biased statement. One of the netizens wrote, I respect her as a legend but I’m not listening to a damn thing this biased woman has to say. Sorry. Loved watching her play too but nah. I’m good.

On the show, Swoopes clarified that her MVP candidate remains A’ja Wilson. However, the 4X WNBA champ emphasized that she believes Sabrina Ionescu has shown immense improvement in her game to be MIP.

In the absence of Breanna Stewart, Ionescu has indeed been working hard. Swoopes made the initial comment during a conversation with Jordan Robinson on the Queens of the Court show. “Sabrina is the most improved player. To Me,” Swoopes said. However, her take was not well received.

Fans criticize Sheryl Swoopes for her comments

One of the netizens believes that the WNBA legend’s opinion isn’t relevant. Criticizing her statement, the fan wrote, “She’s starting to be SOOO annoying. Trying hard to stay relevant. Go coach or something Sheryl. Even high school would be good.”

Most of the netizens believe that rather than Sabrina Ionescu, Chennedy Carter should be the top pick for the MIP honor. Another name mentioned in the debate is DiJonai Carrington. “I’d go with Chennedy Carter as the most improved…” the comment read. Both are great but it seems Carter is the heavy favorite of the fans as they continue to troll the WNBA legend.

During the conversation, Swoopes emphasized how much Sabrina has improved than before. While Swoopes doesn’t consider her for Defensive Player of the Year, Swoopes believes that the New York Liberty star is making better efforts. Ionescu even led the Liberty to the finals last year. However, one of the listeners wants the WNBA legend out of her own podcast and wrote, “don’t put Swoops on here no more.”

“I’m not saying she’s Defensive Player of the Year, not even close. But she’s actually playing some defense. Like better defense that I’ve seen her play in previous seasons. There’s something about, she got a little swagger right now, but her confidence level is off the charts,” Swoopes said on the show.

One of the netizens agreed with Swoopes and wrote, “Yes Sabrina Most Improved.” Averaging 19.9 points per game with more confidence, she might be eligible for the Most Improved Player (MIP) or MVP honors. Whether Swoopes is right or wrong about her opinion, she is surely not letting the netizens troll her for that.
