For LeBron James, Wilson is “TOO DAMN GOOD!!!!” and a better sister than anyone else. For Diana Taurasi, her Team USA teammate is “just unguardable… Everything is face-up, jab steps, and I believe she’s making threes now.” Well, earning these accolades isn’t easy for Aces standout. For her, it has come at the cost of something she’s been doing for a while: fashion and she’s not complaining. Nowadays, Wilson is almost always seen in a plain white tee before each game, but there’s a secret behind her pregame fits!

On September 3rd, the 2024 Olympic gold medalist joined forces with the team from Reviewjournal.com to discuss her recent performances. “I have to want to put on clothes. Right now, where I am, I don’t feel like I deserve to put on clothes. … Right now, my main focus is just getting wins,” she replied when asked about her shift from high-end skirt sets to loungewear.

For Wilson, a white tee has become a symbol of her commitment to winning for the Aces, who stand with a 20-12 record after losing not more than 10 games in the previous two years. Four of those have come post-Olympic break for the team and Wilson isn’t looking to shine while her team struggles to get back on track. So she is just “digging in the bottom of my T-shirt drawer, and I’m putting on a shirt and I’m getting out.”

That has been a tradition for a while now, after acknowledging the initial win it brought her.

“Wrinkle white tee for the win,” she had written on X as the Aces bested LA Sparks for an 87-71 home game win last month. And she has been consistent since. Even on Friday, she opted for the same “white tee” in front of Michelob Ultra Arena before grabbing the 72-83 win, a 26-point performance, and finally a playoff berth.

But has the impact been consistent?

A’ja Wilson is turning heads with “Tee” triumph

Normally, you would see Wilson using “tunnel walks” before each matchup as her personal runway. Ever since she joined the WNBA, she has been expressing her own style in a manner that has become expected not just in the WNBA but also among NBA and NFL stars. However, for the last six games, Wilson’s choice has been clear: a baggy white T-shirt.

And it has positively affected her game. In the last five games, her team has notched three wins and A’ja has had two 40-point performances. Moreover, the 2x MVP who leads the league in points (27.0) and blocks (2.7) per contest, has been delivering an average of 29.2 points, 12.0 rebounds, and 2.4 blocks during her “White Tee” games.

In the process, she also joined legend Candace Parker as the only player to achieve at least 25 points, five assists, five blocks, and 15 rebounds in a regular-season game. But the question is: Will she return to fashion? The answer is yes. According to Wilson, if she and her team start getting “a couple of wins under our belt,” she might come up with “a little something.

While this process might be to the likening of those who enjoy seeing her in fashionable outfits, including stylist Amandi Brooks, Wilson is getting those wins. So, which side do you stand on: stylist Brooks or Tee triumph?
