Earlier this week, ESPN reported that at least seven 911 calls preceded Pearce’s arrest.  Jackson filed a petition for protection against her ex-boyfriend, Pearce Jr. In the petition, she is saying that she was “in fear of my life.” And that if the court didn’t intervene, she believed “James will kill me,” according to ESPN. The Los Angeles Sparks star also wrote that Pearce “verbally and physically abused me on more than one occasion” and threatened to kill, harm and injure her and to place a bag over her head, according to the court filing.

Jackson also explained the February 7 incident that led to Pearce’s arrest, saying that she saw Pearce following her in his vehicle as she drove home and that she called 911 and instead drove to a Doral, Florida, police station “because I knew James was going to hurt me. ” She has been granted a temporary injunction and a hearing for a permanent one is scheduled for April.

Because of this, Pearce is not permitted to contact Jackson or be within 500 feet of her residence. He’s also been warned not to come within 100 feet of her car at any time. And to surrender any firearms, with ammunition, to the nearest police department. Violating the order constitutes criminal contempt of court and could even lead to arrest, fines up to $500, or jail time up to 6 months per violation.

Repeated breaches could escalate charges further. If the permanent injunction is approved, it would be extended further and even affect Pearce’s felony criminal case. The report also alleges that Pearce offered Jackson money to stay with him.

She also said that Pearce suspected she was cheating on him. Tensions escalated during a confrontation in January. She wrote in the petition that Pearce took away her cellphone and belongings and pulled her hair. Jackson explained that she wanted to immediately break up following that confrontation. She said, “James did not listen to my request and instead went on a campaign of threats, physical assaults and abuse against me.”

Pearce now faces five felony charges. Two counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, one count of aggravated stalking, fleeing and eluding police officers, and aggravated battery of a law enforcement officer. He is subject to nine traffic citations and a misdemeanor count of resisting an officer without violence to his person. The Falcons have not taken any disciplinary action on Pearce yet.
