The Indiana Fever finally got their revenge over the Dallas Wings. After Paige Bueckers and her teammates had handed Caitlin Clark and Co. their first loss of the 2026 season, the Fever clapped back with a 98-87 win three months later. But even though the game gave fans plenty to talk about, what broke the internet was the treatment of head coach Stephanie White before the game.

As reported by Fox News reporter Jon Root, the Fever crowd welcomed their head coach with cheers and applause during her pregame introduction.
“Indiana Fever HC Stephanie White receives a huge applause & cheers as she’s introduced pregame at home. Fans seem to have listened to Caitlin Clark, Sophie Cunningham, & Aliyah Boston not liking the boos White received last game,” he wrote on X.
Coach White has been under plenty of scrutiny from the Fever fan base in recent weeks. But things reached another level when she failed to publicly defend Sophie Cunningham after Chicago Sky star DiJonai Carrington committed a hard foul on her. So when Indiana returned to Gainbridge Fieldhouse on August 11, White was met with boos from the home crowd.
That reaction, however, didn’t sit right with Caitlin Clark and Cunningham, who made sure to have their coach’s back after the Fever’s win over the New York Liberty.
“Coach loves us,” Cunningham said during the Fever-Liberty postgame media availability. “Me and Steph are great. Steph is great with all of us. And so it’s really the outside noise that’s trying to distract us, but we’re good.”
Clark, who has faced questions about her relationship with White several times, also made sure to share a piece of her mind.
“I hated that our fans booed her before the game. That made me a little sick, to be honest. And you can disagree and this and that, and I get it… But at the end of the day, that’s our head coach, and we’re going to ride for her,” she said.
Even Aliyah Boston called the crowd’s reaction “annoying” and “disrespectful.”
So when the fans greeted White with cheers just two days later, it appeared the players’ message had gotten through, and fans quickly took notice of the shift in atmosphere.
“The fan base is healing,” one fan wrote. “That’s what leadership looks like. 👏 Fans heard Caitlin Clark, Sophie Cunningham and Aliyah Boston loud and clear. Support your coach especially after she stood up for her players (debatable but that’s another discussion) 🔥,” another added.
However, not everyone was happy about the change.
“Of course they listened to their Lord and Savior! Lmao! They do as their told like good lil sheep!” one fan wrote. “Grown a** sheep and fake a** adults… All it took was (Caitlin Clark) speaking up for them to sway their opinion. Sad,” another added.
When the Cunningham-Carrington incident took place, White maintained that she had missed the hard foul in real time. So before the New York game even started, she used her pregame media availability to make sure her players knew where she stood.
“I take personally any suggestions that I don’t 100% always have my players’ backs. I ride with them 10 toes down all the time. They know that,” White said.
And with the Fever locker room showing a united stance in having each other’s backs, the home crowd eventually appeared to follow suit as Indiana capped the night with its 22nd win of the season, handing the Wings their 15th loss.
Amid the celebrations, one fan simply summed up the mood with, “Go Fever!”
Whether it was the message from Caitlin Clark or Sophie Cunningham or simply the Fever faithful moving on, Indiana left the night with both a win and a united front behind its coach.
