Just hours before one of the most anticipated matchups of the season, one tweet was all it took for all hell to break loose. The Indiana Fever vs Atlanta Dream was a matchup that every fan was waiting for, as they would finally see Caitlin Clark lock horns with Angel Reese after 10 months. But right when the spotlight was supposed to be on the matchup, Mychal Thompson, a former NBA champion and father of Klay Thompson, dropped a post that left everyone asking questions.

Thompson, who has been a vocal supporter of Clark and now serves as the radio color commentator for the Los Angeles Lakers, recently took to X and wrote, “I’m hearing from a reliable source the Fever dont want Caitlin no more…SPARKS…Go get her…NOW!!!”
Now, if a claim like this was ever going to send fans into a frenzy, this was the perfect time. Why? Because this claim comes right in the middle of a tough week for the Fever, who have been making headlines for all the wrong reasons.

The Fever are currently under heavy scrutiny. In their previous game against the Portland Fire, cameras caught Caitlin Clark and head coach Stephanie White in a heated exchange during a timeout. Both of them were visibly emotional, with Clark even shaking her head in frustration as the discussion escalated. So, as soon as the clip of this incident went viral, it almost instantly sparked widespread speculation about tension within the team. But those speculations didn’t appear out of just a single incident.
Even before the 2026 season began, coach White was under fire after she revealed her plan to use the 24-year-old star more off-the-ball in an interview with ESPN. But even though the coach claimed that this was to create better scoring opportunities for her, fans viewed her statement as taking the ball away from the Fever star.
Then the criticism only grew louder after Clark delivered a dominant 32-point performance against the Washington Mystics, and White chose to focus on team balance in her postgame comments rather than highlighting her individual brilliance. So after all that, seeing the player and the coach argue was always going to create tension.
But what makes many curious after Thompson’s claim is the fact that both Caitlin Clark and coach White have publicly pushed back against the growing narrative.
“My relationship with Caitlin is great. I love Caitlin. I ride with her,” the head coach said. While Clark echoed that sentiment and said, “I ride for Steph. I ride for these girls. Steph has my back more than anybody.”
Yet despite those clarifications, Mychal Thompson doubled down on his original stance and added, “Yeah…I hear the FEVER…are ‘SICK’…of Clark…Yall hearin that too?”
So one thing is clear – while neither Clark nor the Fever have shown any sign of backing away from each other, the noise around them isn’t going anywhere just yet.
But the claim from Thompson does make you wonder – if the Los Angeles Sparks were somehow able to secure Clark, what would that team even look like?
If Caitlin Clark Landed in LA…
Before we get into all the speculation, the reality is that a move like this is extremely unlikely, especially when the Fever have shown no indication whatsoever that their franchise cornerstone is even remotely available.
Still, if we go past logic and Clark landed in Los Angeles, the Sparks’ identity would shift overnight.

Her chemistry with Dearica Hamby would immediately stand out because Hamby’s mobility and screening would be a perfect match would be a perfect match for Caitlin Clark’s deep range shooting and elite passing. On the other hand, defenses would be forced into constant compromise as they would have to choose between stepping up too high or giving up the paint. Because it will either be Clark burying deep threes or Cameron Brink dominating the paint.
When it comes to transition, the Sparks would become electric, with Clark pushing the tempo and hitting wings like Lexie Brown and Rae Burrell in stride for easy points.
Even the rotation would naturally reshape around her presence. But even in this dream setup, one thing remains unchanged in reality – Kelsey Plum already holds the keys as the Sparks’ floor general, anchoring the backcourt and direction of the team.
So that’s where this conversation settles. As exciting as the idea sounds, it remains a pure hypothetical situation.
