The Indiana Fever are bringing back one of their best players, which shows that teams are using their famous players in new ways off the court. When a WNBA legend comes back to a team after being away for years, it shows how much they still care about the community and how dedicated the team is to building on its storied history.

The Fever celebrated Tamika Catchings’s return by sharing a post from Pacers Sports & Entertainment that said, “Tamika’s back.”  The group said that Catchings will return as an ambassador, helping with business, community, and basketball projects across all of Pacers Sports & Entertainment. In her new job, she will promote the Indiana Fever, Pacers, and Noblesville Boom, get people excited about events, and show off the organization’s growth and vision. Catchings herself expressed her enthusiasm, tweeting, “Excited about rejoining @PacersSportsEnt as an ambassador!!”

Catchings’ appointment is very important because she has done more for Indiana basketball than anyone else. The Hall of Famer played for the Fever for 16 seasons before retiring in 2016. She won a WNBA championship in 2012 and was named an All-Star 10 times. Her four gold medals with Team USA at the Olympics make her one of the best basketball players of all time. Catchings has stayed connected to Indianapolis since she stopped playing professionally. She owns Tea’s Me Cafe and started the Catch the Stars Foundation over 20 years ago to help young people develop their character, fitness, and literacy.

Mel Raines, president and CEO of Pacers Sports & Entertainment, said that the reunion was a good fit for the company because “her legacy as a champion, her deep connection to our fans, and her passion for uplifting others all fit perfectly with our mission.”

She is still a big part of planning big basketball events, as shown by her recent role as co-chair of the 2024 NBA All-Star Weekend host committee and her board position for the 2025 WNBA All-Star Weekend in Indianapolis. By making her ambassador role official, Pacers Sports & Entertainment gets a representative whose number 24 jersey stands for excellence both on and off the court.

Tamika Catchings comes home to the Indiana Fever

The move brings someone back home who gave everything to the franchise. Catchings played for the Fever for all 16 years of her WNBA career. She was the team’s only MVP and all-time leading scorer. In 2012, she led Indiana to its championship title, which is still the franchise’s biggest win.

For Catchings, this isn’t just another job. “Indiana has been my home since the Indiana Fever drafted me, and Pacers Sports & Entertainment played such an important role in my life and my journey,” she explained.

She’s excited about the new chapter. “I’m thrilled to step into this new ambassador role and continue serving the communities, families, and fans that make this place so special. I can’t wait to work alongside the Fever, the Pacers, and my PS&E family to help strengthen the impact we can make together,” she shared.

This ambassador job gives her an even bigger platform to keep making a difference in the community that helped her career.
