What was that? Down by seven with roughly 25 seconds to go, No. 2 Chicago somehow found a touchdown to send the game to overtime, and the internet lost it. Caleb Wilson’s touchdown pass to Cole Kmet was so crazy that even Caitlin Clark and Sophie Cunningham had to react.

“The Bears are insane 🤣🤣🤣,” Caitlin Clark posted, while Sophie Cunningham jumped in with, “Chicago, what did I just watch???? Holy smokes.”

Clark grew up in Des Moines and, with no major league teams in Iowa, she leaned towards Chicago,  becoming a Cubs fan early on. In 2023, the Iowa Cubs even gave her a bobblehead night with a meet-and-greet and a first pitch. The turnout was massive: 10,692 fans, the highest at Principal Park since August 2019.

She has also been spotted at Wrigley Field multiple times wearing a No. 22 Cubs jersey with “Clark” on the back. And before the series-deciding NLDS Game 5 between the Cubs and Brewers, the 2024 WNBA Rookie of the Year hopped on X to cheer them on, writing, “Come on Cubbies!!!!!”

Unfortunately for Clark and the Cubs, their season ended with a 3–1 loss to the Brewers, who headed to the NL Championship Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers. But moments like this still highlight Clark’s love for Chicago sports, even if she doesn’t support every team from the Windy City.

The Chicago Sky are one of the Fever’s biggest rivals, mainly because of the Clark–Angel Reese storyline, but that hasn’t stopped the Fever superstar from following other Chicago teams, and the Bears are no exception. Clark is a big Kansas City Chiefs fan, but it’s easy to understand why she was locked in for Bears–Rams, given how wild that game was.

The same probably goes for Sophie Cunningham, who, aside from basketball, also spent time as a placekicker on the football team at Rock Bridge High School in Columbia, Missouri. We still don’t know her favorite NFL team, but her love for the sport is likely why she tuned in.

Unfortunately for Clark, Cunningham, and every Bears fan, the comeback wasn’t enough this time. True to their “Cardiac Bears” reputation, Chicago forced overtime, but the Rams survived and won 20–17 to reach the NFC Championship Game.

Moving on, Caitlin Clark’s growing reputation in the football world took an unexpected turn.

Elijah Sarratt Names His Dog After Caitlin Clark

Ahead of facing the Miami Hurricanes in the National Championship, Indiana Hoosiers wide receiver Elijah Sarratt shared a funny little personal detail, and it just happened to involve Caitlin Clark. While talking about his time in Indiana and how much he loves the community, Sarratt mentioned that he named his American Bully after Caitlin Clark.

“I got my dog… That’s what I’m gonna miss the most. CC. They may not like it, [but] she’s named after Caitlin Clark. That’s why I named her [that]. Indiana fans may not like that. But yeah, that’s my American bully. She’s my daughter right there.”

You can understand Sarratt’s hesitation, given that Clark is an Iowa alum and Iowa is one of Indiana’s rivals. And to be fair, Clark made life tough for the Hoosiers, ending with a positive head-to-head record and taking the 2022 Big Ten title from them.

But Clark is now with the Indiana Fever, and she’s actually rooting for Elijah and the Hoosiers in the title game. At this point, most Indiana fans probably don’t mind the dog being named “CC” — Clark is one of theirs now.
