Details of Angel Reese’s New Movie

A House of Dynamite is a 2025 American political thriller directed by Kathryn Bigelow and written by Noah Oppenheim. The film follows the U.S. government’s response to a single nuclear missile launched by an unidentified enemy. This marks Bigelow’s first film since the 2017 release of Detroit. Known for her politically charged storytelling, Bigelow has delivered some of the most acclaimed films in the genre, from The Hurt Locker — which earned her the historic title of the first woman to win the Best Director Oscar — to Zero Dark Thirty. In many ways, A House of Dynamite feels like a natural continuation of her bold, high-stakes narratives.

Alongside Reese, the film features a star-studded cast including Idris Elba, Rebecca Ferguson, Gabriel Basso, Jared Harris, and Tracy Letts. Produced by Kathryn Bigelow, Noah Oppenheim, and Greg Shapiro, the movie made its debut at the 82nd Venice International Film Festival on September 2, 2025, where it earned a nomination for the prestigious Golden Lion. The film is set for a limited theatrical release in the United Kingdom on October 3, 2025, followed by its U.S. release on October 10. It will then stream globally on Netflix starting October 24. So, Reese fans, grab your popcorn, things are about to get very interesting.

Spoiler?

  • The film builds across three chapters, saving Angel Reese’s moment for the grand finale. In the White House, Idris Elba’s character, the President of the United States, is told that the next thing on his schedule is something called the “Angel Reese” thing. Cut to Liberty Arena, bright lights, bouncing basketballs, and Reese on the court, waiting with a group of young girls. The President steps onto the hardwood, trading shots with the kids and opening up about how the game shaped his life. Reese adds her own spark to the exchange as she converses with Elba and the other women. Just as the moment settles into something warm and inspiring, duty interrupts. The President is whisked away to face a looming crisis, leaving behind the echo of that fleeting, hopeful scene that Reese helped build.

Why Angel Reese is a Perfect Fit for Hollywood

Plenty of NBA players have made their mark in Hollywood. Michael Jordan and LeBron James brought the magic of Space Jam to life. Kevin Garnett turned heads in Uncut Gems, and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar had his unforgettable moment in Airplane!. Even Shaquille O’Neal found his way into the WWE spotlight. But for the WNBA, that kind of crossover into mainstream entertainment has been far less common.

Interestingly, one of the few WNBA players to make a mark in films happens to be Angel Reese’s own mentor, Lisa Leslie. The WNBA  legend appeared in movies like Think Like a Man and Uncle Drew, showing that hoops and Hollywood can go hand in hand.

Having Reese appear in a movie is a huge deal for the league, but it also highlights her growing identity as more than just a basketball player. Last year, the Chicago Sky forward made her Met Gala debut in a custom 16Arlington look, turning heads in a mint-green, floor-length gown adorned with sequins and ostrich feathers. This year, she raised the bar again, arriving at the Met Gala in a stunning Thom Browne suit. With moments like these, it’s clear that Reese already has a well-established presence off the court.

She had already started making her mark in Hollywood last year when the movie Wicked, starring Ariana Grande, featured a WNBA cross-promotion teaser with Reese. That was just the beginning, and now she’s finally set to make her big-screen debut.

What This Means for Angel Reese’s Career

With the ongoing issues around pay, it’s easy to see why diversifying revenue streams has become crucial for athletes. Playing overseas or joining the newly formed Unrivaled league is one way to do it. Another is through sponsorship deals — but that only comes if you have a strong presence on social media.

With Reese leading the league in social media followers, she has comfortably cemented herself as the most recognizable WNBA star off the court. This movie appearance will only elevate her image, opening doors for her to be seen not just as a player but as an entertainer. It’s a path her mentor and father figure, Shaquille O’Neal, mastered long after his playing days. Maybe Reese is looking to carve out that same kind of legacy for herself?
