New York Liberty star Breanna Stewart was not the happiest person coming out of the Barclays Center. Besides losing the game, Stewart lost her cool after what she felt was a foul on her by Atlanta Dream star Angel Reese that was not called by the officials. On top of that, it was Stewart who found herself on the receiving end of a technical foul after she protested.

However, Stewart was not the only one who felt like the foul should have been called on Reese. Because following a play-by-play review, WNBA analyst Robin Lundberg has now sided with Stewart.

“It was a foul. It definitely was a foul. When you take a look at the closer angle, you could see how the ref. Sometimes I try to put myself in the ref’s shoes; whether it’s like blatant or whatever, you could see how the ref might have missed it.”

“Just thinking that Reese got the ball… but then it comes down across the wrist and hand are part of the ball if you hit the ball first and then go through the hand. But in this case, I think that’s a foul. It’s the ref’s job to get the foul calls right,” Lundberg said on his YouTube channel.

The incident occurred during the dying minutes of a game that had serious implications for the Liberty if they wanted to secure a better seed and receive home-court advantage in the first round of the playoffs.

With 1:57 left in the fourth quarter, Stewart attempted a drive to the basket, but she was met by none other than Angel Reese, who attempted to block the Liberty star’s shot. While Reese somewhat succeeded, she ended up hitting Stewart’s arm. The Liberty veteran immediately called for a foul on Reese but was unsuccessful, and the rest is history.

“That absolutely was [because of] the no-call,” Stewart said following the game. “She (Angel Reese) slapped the s— out of my hand. So yeah, you gotta see that. Baseline ref, you gotta see that.”

According to Liberty reporter Myles Ehrlich, Stewart also said that Reese should pay her fine for what was only the third tech of her career, on her way out of the press conference. While Lundberg has sided with Stewart on this matter, he continued that the Liberty veteran should be the last person complaining about a foul.

“Now, of all people to be complaining about a foul, probably not Stewie, who’s been on the receiving end of some, uh, generous foul calls that had gravitas behind them throughout her career,” Lundberg added.

Regardless, on top of avoiding the whistle, Angel Reese got the last laugh as the Dream beat the Liberty 95-84 to further cement their spot in the standings. However, this one headline should not take away from Stewart and Reese’s impact for their respective teams, as both players had a strong outing.

Breanna Stewart recorded 27 points, 14 rebounds, 4 assists, and a steal. While she did have four turnovers under her belt, Stewart was the Liberty’s most productive player and the key to keeping her team within striking distance for much of the game.

Meanwhile, Angel Reese recorded yet another double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds, shooting 50 percent from the field despite missing all three of her shots from outside the arc. Reese is a frontrunner for the Defensive Player of the Year award, and she is currently showing all the signs of deserving that honor.

While the Dream came out of Barclays Center as victors, they will have to return on Wednesday night, as it will be the final game of the regular season for both teams. If the Dream win once again, they will be guaranteed to finish above Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever, even if Stephanie White’s team wins both games against the Minnesota Lynx.

However, if the Dream lose, the Fever will have the opportunity to surpass them in the standings, which goes a long way when it comes to entering the playoffs with momentum.
