Some of the biggest names in Iowa women’s basketball showed up, in the comments section, at least, after Lisa Bluder took on a role far different from anything she did on the sidelines. The retired Iowa Hawkeyes head coach presided over former Iowa star Megan DiLeo’s wedding ceremony, trading her clipboard for the officiant’s book.

The heartfelt occasion quickly caught the attention of the wider Hawkeye family, with former teammate Kate Martin, current Iowa head coach Jan Jensen, and several others sharing their reactions after Megan posted photos from the special day on Instagram. 

Martin kept it simple and perfect, dropping just one word in the comments: “Gorgeous.” Coach Jensen, on the other hand, went for something warmer and more expansive: “What a perfectly glorious day! Love you so much! You were radiant! 🙌.”

Kate Martin was Megan DiLeo‘s teammate during their overlapping time at Iowa, though the two never shared the court in college. The one season when their time at the program crossed paths, Martin was unable to play a single minute. She suffered a torn ACL and lateral meniscus in her left knee before the season and had to redshirt to recover.

Meanwhile, Megan was a dominant senior playing out her final collegiate season. That, however, changed in the professional ranks, as both eventually became official on-court teammates, playing together for the Las Vegas Aces during the 2024 season.

Jan Jensen, meanwhile, has a much longer coaching relationship with Megan. She coached Megan throughout her entire four-year collegiate career at the University of Iowa from 2015 to 2019. While Lisa Bluder was the head coach during that period, Jensen served as associate head coach and worked closely with Megan as the team’s post-player mentor, guiding her through one of the most decorated careers in program history.

Beyond Martin and Jensen, several other familiar faces from the basketball world flooded Megan’s comment section with congratulations. Sydney Colson, who was also a teammate of DiLeo’s with the Aces, offered her warm wishes. Lucy Olsen, another Iowa alumna, added her congratulations as well. And even the Iowa Women’s Basketball official page stopped by the comments to celebrate one of their own.

Simply put, it was a basketball wedding with an Iowa theme. And Lisa Bluder was leading one of her players all the way to the ring.

Who Is Megan DiLeo’s Husband, David DiLeo?

Megan DiLeo’s wedding was the perfect basketball wedding by just about every measure. Beyond having her former coach officiate, she was also marrying a professional basketball player.

Like Megan, David DiLeo is a professional basketball player. While he did not play in the NBA, he previously competed in the NBA Summer League with the New Orleans Pelicans in 2021 and the Indiana Pacers in 2022.

The majority of his professional career, however, has been built in elite European leagues, where he has played extensively and continued to carve out a respected career. He, in fact, recently signed a contract to play for Bahçeşehir Koleji in Turkey, confirming that his playing days are very much ongoing.

At Central Michigan, David became the Mid-American Conference’s all-time leader in made three-pointers, while also finishing seventh in rebounds (733) and eighth in career scoring (1,604 points).

Megan, for her part, is still active professionally. She currently plays as a center for the Portland Fire and even missed a game to get married, a sacrifice that was entirely worth it.
