The growing popularity and the newfound commercial success of the WNBA have failed to trickle down to the players in terms of salaries and overall revenue. The WNBPA has been constantly asking for revised terms in the CBA, and the two bodies have been trying to sort out a median resolution that is beneficial to everyone involved.

The inability of the WNBA and the WNBPA to come to an agreement regarding the CBA terms is already delaying offseason proceedings. The CBA negotiations seemed to have hit a stagnation point. After the agreed moratorium between all parties, there were no updates, with fans eager to know what is happening behind the scenes.

WNBA veteran Kelsey Plum has reportedly come out with an update on the matter. According to Alexa Philippou, the Los Angeles Sparks star has stated that a player meeting is set to take place with the league in New York on Monday. WNBPA vice president Napheesa Collier will be in attendance, as will be president Nneka Ogwumike, and there is hope that some franchise owners will also be involved in the meeting.
A face-to-face meeting with the league management, and hopefully owners, can aid in making the situation clearer, and the parties might be able to come to an agreement regarding the CBA terms much faster. All the parties have a lot on the line. The WNBA teams have released their schedules for the 2026 season, with some already making a few tickets available to the fans. They would not be in favor of any further delays that could impact the released schedule.
The players without a contract cannot get into talks with teams to secure a 2026 deal, while the teams cannot start building their 2026 roster properly because of the agreed moratorium. It is making life even more difficult for the two new franchises, Toronto and Portland, as there is yet to be a clear picture of what the Expansion Draft list will look like. In the midst of all this, fans will hope the Monday meeting can provide a fruitful and fast outcome to the entire CBA saga.

Kelsey Plum continues to increase her potential contract value with Unrivaled domination
The Los Angeles Sparks star was part of a 2025 trade that saw her accept a lower contract of $202,000. However, with just another year on that deal and a new CBA set to arrive, Kelsey Plum took the gamble of heading into the offseason as an unrestricted free agent. Her first foray in the offseason was her Unrivaled debut.

Drafted by Phantom BC for Season 2 of Unrivaled Basketball, Plum has shone in the league thus far. She is one of the leading scorers in the entire league, averaging 21.1 points while also setting up her teammates well, boasting an average of 5.4 assists per game. To do all in under 20 minutes of game time regularly, Plum is setting herself well ahead of Free Agency in the offseason.
Plum has previously stated her desire to stay with the Sparks for more than just one season. While the current moratorium prevents teams from reaching out, her Unrivaled performances would not have gone unnoticed. The Sparks could build a strong core featuring Plum and Cameron Brink, and regardless of the CBA terms, Plum is set to see her contract value rise significantly.
