Kelsey Plum made Unrivaled history on January 10, when the Phantom BC locked horns with Lunar Owls. But she didn’t do it alone…

Aliyah Boston’s physical, perfectly timed screens opened driving lanes and shooting windows all game, allowing Plum to operate almost effortlessly. But the moment was ironic given their WNBA history. For years, Plum had to be a victim of her screens, often complaining to refs about them.

However, after the game, where they are now playing on the same team, Plum couldn’t help but laugh at the full-circle moment.

“I’d be complaining all year about moving screens, and here we are,” Plum said when asked how cool it was to play alongside Boston in a post-game interview.

After years of fighting through those screens, Plum is now thriving because of them.

In a night where the Phantom won with a 34-point lead, Plum erupted for 38 points, tying the league’s single-game scoring record, previously set by Napheesa Collier and Chelsea Gray. It was a night where everything clicked, and much of that freedom came from the work Boston was doing away from the ball.

Phantom BC entered the matchup at a disadvantage. With Satou Sabally still sidelined, Dana Evans inactive, and Tiffany Hayes exiting the game early, the team was down to just four players in a 3-on-3 contest. But it didn’t matter.

Plum took over from the opening minutes, scoring from all three levels and dictating the pace of the game. She finished the night shooting 16 of 22, knocking down four three-pointers, while adding 8 rebounds and 11 assists, flirting with what could’ve been the first triple-double in Unrivaled’s two-season history.

Boston, on the other hand, scored 21 points, grabbed 10 rebounds, and made 5 assists, as the team ended the game with a 94-60 win. Phantom also matched the Lunar Owls’ record from last season with the highest points scored in an Unrivaled contest.

“It was really fun tonight,” Plum added after the win. “It was a great team win. Just proud. Way to bounce back. Everyone’s great in this league, right? So it’s really just about being resilient, and it was a great win.”

With this win under their belt, the Phantom are now 1-1, with their only loss so far coming against the Breeze BC, where they lost by 7 points. For their next game, they are set to face one of the league’s most formidable rosters.
