The Indiana Fever-Atlanta Dream game on Sunday was a highly physical battle, with a total of 43 personal fouls called between the two teams. Twenty-four of those personal fouls were committed by the Dream. But according to WNBA analyst Rosalina Lee, there could have been one more against Angel Reese for a hit on Caitlin Clark. Lee revealed that play in her postgame reaction video, which she shared on her YouTube channel.

“Mo Billings was also kind of getting worked by Angel Reese. But you know who wasn’t getting worked by Angel Reese was Michaela Timson. But speaking of Angel Reese, there was a moment where she did hit Caitlin in the neck. Nothing was called. Kind of egregiou,” Lee said in the video.

The controversial incident that Lee referenced occurred with under five minutes remaining in the first quarter. While jockeying for rebounding position and chasing down a loose ball, Angel Reese shoved Caitlin Clark directly in the neck area. And as Lee said, no whistle was blown, and no personal, technical, or flagrant foul was assessed on the floor. Even though Clark actually turned toward the referees to appeal for a foul or a review, her request was ignored, and play continued without interruption.

That sequence of events, however, did get several fans across social media riled up. The fact that it was even directed at the neck brought some form of nostalgia for Fever fans. That is, the infamous Alyssa Thomas fist-to-the-neck foul against Clark, which happened in June, about two months ago. Like this Reese foul, that was also not called at all in the moment, although it was later reviewed after the game and led to a suspension for Thomas. But in terms of optics, this Reese incident doesn’t seem as intense or serious as the Alyssa Thomas foul.

However, it’s safe to say that Caitlin Clark eventually did get the last laugh, as the Indiana Fever went on to win the game 95-91 after overtime. And Clark did play a key part in that victory, contributing 26 points, three rebounds, and nine assists, just one short of a double-double.

Angel Reese herself, however, had quite a decent showing in her own right, as she ended the game with 15 points, 14 rebounds, and six assists. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to secure the win, and her missed layup with seconds remaining, with the score at 81-81 in regulation, was a highly painful, defining moment of the game.

With this result, a win for the Fever, they preserve their hold on fourth place in the standings and split the head-to-head season series against the Dream at 2-2. The only possible Fever-Dream or Reese-Clark encounter that might happen again this season would likely be in the playoffs if the scenario plays out, and it will be another exciting matchup to see.

For now, however, Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever will direct their attention to the Toronto Tempo game on Tuesday. A win in that game will be their fifth in a row, which will equal their longest winning streak this season.
