A league-high 7-game win streak for the Aces and another loud MVP campaign for A’ja Wilson. It may have been a slow start for both the team and the star player, thanks to injuries, but ever since Becky Hammon called it a team with elite plays, they haven’t slowed down. And the 3x MVP? She’s leading from the front, enough for the HC to call her “coach A’ja.” In scouting and seeing from a different lens, Wilson is building a case for a historic feat, and if you ask Kelsey Plum, she wouldn’t be surprised.
“I think the thing I always appreciate and admire about A’ja, even to this day, is she shows up every game,” said the former Aces star in the recent episode of Sue Bird’s podcast. Having been Wilson’s teammate for 6 years, Plum speaks from experience. Now, even WNBA fans can agree to this fact as Wilson’s ability to ‘show up every game’ has now allowed her to stand out from the rest of her peers.
Following their win over the Wings, where Wilson put up a 34-point performance, the star center broke another record– she now leads the WNBA in most 30-point games this season. It arrived only days after Wilson had become the first player in the league to record a 30-20 double-double. But that isn’t all that’s solidifying the 2x champion’s case.

Wilson also set the WNBA record for the most games in league history with 20+ points, 5+ rebounds, 2+ steals, and 2+ blocks. From the looks of it, August 2025 will certainly go down as a memorable one in the WNBA star’s history book.
Throughout 31 games this season, Wilson has scored 30 or more points in 8 of them. Needless to say, it has helped the Aces move from 7th position to 5th since the All-Star break.

One person who we know would be proud of Wilson after today is her former teammate. After all, as Kelsey Plum revealed in the same episode, “That’s someone that I had big expectations [for]. I think she’s completely superseded them, um, and her growth every year… She’s a competitor. Like when the game’s on the line, she wants the ball. She’s just like someone that, [in] big moments, she gets bigger. And I just, really, I’ve always really just respected and admired her about that”.
When the season looked nowhere like the ‘championship year’ they were in for, Wilson steadied the ship. They had barely managed a 3-game winning streak prior to All-Star weekend. But when they returned, they returned determined, and the star center made it clear that they weren’t settling for ‘just getting through’. “We’ve got to start stacking wins and playing the right way,” she had voiced. They have lost 3 games since the weekend, and Wilson has had a double-digit performance in all of the 13 games.
So Plum isn’t the only one who is seeing the 29-year-old soar. The same has become apparent for every WNBA fan out there. This is why even betting sites are now favouring the Aces star with less than a month remaining until the regular season ends.

According to a recent report by Fox Sports, BetMGM now has A’ja Wilson’s odds to win the MVP set at +600. This puts her already on top of Sabrina Ionescu (+10000), Allisha Gray (+25000), and Caitlin Clark (+30000). However, it does not put her above Minnesota Lynx’s Napheesa Collier (-325), and Phoenix Mercury’s Alyssa Thomas (+450).
Though Collier is still the favorite to win the 2025 MVP, her line has fluctuated in the last two weeks, thanks to an injury. Meanwhile, Wilson’s odds moved up from +3500 to +600. A few more days, and we might see some more major changes in both players’ positions.

While A’ja Wilson’s stock is improving due to the Las Vegas Aces’ current 7-game win streak, Becky Hammon does not want people to make too big of a deal of it. As reported by the Las Vegas Journal, the Aces head coach said, “You know, the year that we had the No. 1 offense and the No. 1 defense, A’ja didn’t get [MVP]. So people are going to make their own decisions. Can’t get caught up too much in it, we’ve just got to go out and be about our business, let A’ja be A’ja”.

Letting A’ja be A’ja is what has led to her odds being improved. In the coming weeks, it remains to be seen whether we see more of an improvement on that front or not.
