Two games down in the Las Vegas Aces vs Phoenix Mercury Final series, and it feels like there’s only one favorite at this point – the Aces. It wasn’t supposed to be this one-sided. Both teams had an equal shot heading into the Finals, and both earned their place on the biggest stage. Right now, the Aces are just two wins away from the championship. But the Mercury aren’t ready to fold. They’ve made comebacks before, and they still have the fire to fight back and claim the crown.

“We love an underdog story. We love when people count us out. Of course, we put a tall task in front of us being down two [to] nothing, but there’s still a lot of basketball left to play. [It’s just been] two of a seven-game series. Still a lot of confidence here. We just know we have a lot of room to improve,” said Alyssa Thomas, making it clear she’s not ready to give up, and neither are any of her teammates.

With the series heading to the Phoenix Arena, the Mercury will count on their home fans to act as an extra player. Can the roar of the fans ignite another unforgettable comeback, or will the Aces keep cruising toward the championship? Here’s everything you need to know before the next thrilling chapter of this Finals showdown.

Prediction: Can the Mercury take Game 3?

While Game 1 saw the Aces continue their trend of edging out the Mercury by exactly three points – making it three such wins this season – Game 2 told a different story. What started as a tight contest quickly turned one-sided. After taking a three-point lead in the first quarter, the Mercury just couldn’t figure out the Aces’ zone defense and eventually fell short by 13 points.

A’ja Wilson and Jackie Young continue to set the tone for the Aces, combining for 60 points to push Las Vegas over the line in Game 2. Young, in particular, has been a revelation this postseason, racking up 206 points so far and averaging 20.6 per game. It’s a reminder that the Aces are far from just an A’ja Wilson show.

The Mercury’s Big Three helped deliver 27 regular-season wins, their best run since 2015 and only the second 25+ win season in franchise history. They carried that dominance into the postseason with commanding wins over the Liberty and Lynx. But floor general hasn’t quite found her groove in this series, which has been the reason why they have lost both games so far.

The triple-double queen Alyssa Thomas had her least productive outing of this magical run in Game 2, finishing with just 10 points, six rebounds, and five assists. The Aces’ zone defense has kept her from controlling the game from the middle like she usually does, and it’s thrown the Mercury completely off rhythm.

Despite having no home advantage for Game 3, ESPN still gives the Aces a 53.8% chance of winning, and it’s easy to see why. The 2022 and 2023 champions have been an offensive juggernaut this postseason, averaging 87.6 points per game while shooting a blistering 48.3% from the field.

Game 3 could be the turning point of the Finals. Will the Mercury rise at home, or will the Aces keep rolling? Let us know your pick in the comments!
