Chennedy Carter seems to be stuck in a loop. Every time the 27-year-old guard looks to have found a fresh start, things somehow come crashing down before she can even truly settle in. And Tuesday was the latest reminder of that reality.

The Las Vegas Aces have waived Carter just hours after tendering a standard-contract offer sheet to the Indiana Fever’s developmental player Justine Pissott. Indiana had 24 hours to match the Aces’ offer by promoting Pissott to their standard roster. But the Fever declined, officially clearing the way for the second-round pick rookie forward to head to Las Vegas.
Coming back to Chennedy Carter, this time it looked like she had finally found the opportunity she was searching for. After spending the 2025 season playing in Mexico and China, the former No. 4 overall pick earned a roster spot with the defending champions on a non-guaranteed, veteran-minimum contract at $277,500 after signing a training camp deal in April.
She quickly became one of the Aces’ most productive bench players. In the 13 games she played, she averaged 12.2 points, 1.8 rebounds, and 1.3 assists, making her the Aces’ fourth-leading scorer.

But everything began to unravel quickly.
Following the Las Vegas Aces’ 95-87 loss to the Dallas Wings on May 28, Chennedy Carter voiced her frustration over her role in a social media post, writing, “Y’all can hollar at me when my leash is off, too.”
While neither Carter nor the organization publicly linked the post to what followed, her minutes dipped almost immediately. Injuries and illness further interrupted her campaign, and after being held scoreless in 15 minutes against the Indiana Fever on Sunday, the Aces opted to move on before her contract became fully guaranteed (Teams had until 5 p.m. (ET) on Tuesday to waive players on non-guaranteed contracts). The decision means that Las Vegas will not have to pay out the rest of Carter’s deal.
This move is now the latest chapter of a trend that has unfortunately followed Chennedy Carter ever since she joined the WNBA in 2020. She was suspended by the Atlanta Dream in her second year for “conduct detrimental to the team.” Then the Los Angeles Sparks waived her ahead of the 2023 season. The Chicago Sky also declined to extend her a qualifying offer despite her team-leading 17.5-point average in 2024, which forced her to play overseas the next year before Las Vegas handed her an opportunity in 2026.
Pissott is yet to play a regular-season game. But in the one preseason game she played, she scored 8 points by going 2-3 from behind the arc. She now gets her first shot on a standard WNBA roster with the Aces, while Chennedy Carter is once again left searching for another fresh start.
