As Caitlin Clark opts to stay away from the Unrivaled league, her teammate Lexie Hull is gearing up to take her place on the court. After wrapping up her third season with the Indiana Fever in October, Hull had every intention of laying low for a bit. She spent a solid three months of the offseason in Indianapolis, hitting the gym, and focusing on her training. But now, she’s all set to make her debut in Unrivaled, a league that’s already got fans buzzing. However, before jumping back into the action, Lexie made sure to take some time off to enjoy the little things—like relaxing with her boyfriend and best friend.

It wasn’t long before Hull took to Instagram to share a couple of snapshots of her offseason moments with her beloved. In the pictures, the couple looks cozy and content, and the caption was simple but heartfelt: “Happy Birthday to my best friend.”

Hull met Will Matthiessen, a former Pittsburgh Pirates player, at Stanford and they have been going strong ever since. As he struggled in his MLB run, Hull stuck by his side and as the Indiana Fever star soared through her W career, Matthiessen reciprocated. Last off-season, as Hull traveled, he ensured she checked in different gyms and practiced her part regularly. The scenes don’t seem much different now.

One person who has had a closer view of the journey of this relationship is Cameron Brink. And the LA Sparks has an apt remark for the two after knowing them for years.

A close friend of Hull’s since their Stanford days, Brink couldn’t resist leaving a cheeky comment on the post. “Mom & Dad,” she wrote. The two spent two years as Cardinals on the same team before Hull left for the W in 2022. Matthiessen, who had entered Stanford only a year prior to the Fever guard, was in the picture by then.

Watching them for years now, the LA Sparks star has seen them go from a new couple to a dream many would await achieving, adding a little more weight to her comment.

Overcoming struggles, Lexie Hull and boyfriend hit a new milestone

Will, a former baseball player, had a promising MLB career ahead of him. But the couple’s paths in sports took very different directions—Lexie dominating in the WNBA and Will making his mark as an analyst—one thing has remained constant: their unwavering support for one another.

The two celebrated four years of togetherness just this past May. Lexie recently revealed in a fun “this or that” quiz that she firmly believes in fate. And after hearing about how the couple met at Stanford, it’s easy to see why.

After being drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2019, he was sidelined by injuries, ultimately leading to his early retirement. But that hasn’t stopped him from being Lexie’s biggest cheerleader. Whenever she’s out there competing, he’s right behind her, supporting her every step of the way. Now, the two have reportedly bought a home together just last month.

“It was such an honor (and so much fun) being on this journey with y’all!” the real estate agency in charge had captioned.

As Lexie prepares to make her debut in Unrivaled and continue to shine for the Indiana Fever, it’s clear that her relationship with Will remains a grounding force in her life.
