Few players continue to inspire long after stepping away from the court, but Maya Moore is one of them. A recent inductee into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame, Moore captivated audiences throughout her career with her on-court brilliance, and since retiring, her off-court endeavors have carried the same impact. At her emotional induction speech, she sparked inspiration once again. This time, though, it wasn’t a player who felt moved. It was a parent: Jamie Hull, mother of Indiana Fever guard Lexie Hull.

As Maya Moore spoke to the current generation of basketball players, she gave them some valuable lessons. In those lessons, one of the biggest advice she gave was: “The joy of having people around you that believe in you and you believe in them. Seek that culture out. Be a part of that culture. I’m confident you won’t regret it”. These words seemed to resonate with Lexie Hull’s mother, Jamie. She reposted a video from Maya Moore’s speech with a beautiful caption and also made sure to try and motivate the Indiana Fever for their upcoming journey.
Hull tweeted, “Absolutely love this message! It feels like she is describing this years Indiana Fever team and culture. No tighter team! Keep fighting till the last second of your game ladies! This season is not over. We Beleive in ALL of you!!”

Despite a season riddled with setbacks—Caitlin Clark’s injury, the DeWanna Bonner saga, Aari McDonald stepping in, and injuries to Sydney Colson, Sophie Cunningham, and Chloe Bibby—the Indiana Fever have refused to quit. Forced to adapt, the team embraced a “next woman up” mentality, particularly during the second half of the season, as Kelsey Mitchell reminded everyone in huddle calls that “all we got, all we need”.

They’ve gone after every loose ball with heart, never worrying about the consequences. Lexie Hull taking two hits to the head in consecutive games is just one example of their grit. Even those on the sidelines stayed fully in the fight, cheering, coaching, and keeping spirits high. From yelling at refs to even covering their coach’s fine for doing the same, every player showed up for one another, on and off the court. And it isn’t easy, as Moore pointed out at the beginning of the clip.
“I want y’all in the next generation to realize it’s natural to wrestle with insecurities and fears. As you navigate your sports journey, you have to figure out what motivates you every day when you get up out of bed and there’s a lot of pressure. I think, to be motivated by fear and approach your team and your teammates that way, fear of sharing the spotlight, fear of looking bad, fear of having to wait your turn and losing out on money. That’s a lot of pressure. I get it“.
However, the next thing she said conjured up clear images of Indiana’s locker room.

“But I want to challenge you up and comers to learn to love and seek out joy and connection as your biggest motivator. All of these teams that you see when they’re getting interviewed, you see the NBA Finals. You see the WBA, you see college. They’re always talking about each other and the joy that they have of being together. I mean one of the teams you couldn’t even interview them without all of them being together. Right like, that’s what I’m talking about to get out of bed. Determined to see how you can find connection with the people god’s allowed you to be with that day. Don’t miss out on learning from someone more experienced than you. The joy of helping someone else get better seeing them shine at what they’re good at,” Moore said.
And now, Indiana’s reward for respecting the connections and making each other better has finally arrived. With their recent win against the Washington Mystics, the Indiana Fever has finally booked their ticket to the 2025 WNBA playoffs.
Indiana Finally Makes the Playoffs After Recent Win Against the Washington Mystics
After handing the Mystics a 29-point blowout loss, the Indiana Fever have finally made it to the playoffs. Led by Natasha Howard’s 17 points and a handy performance from their hardship contract signees, Shey Peddy (13 points) and Aerial Powers (15 points), the Fever absolutely torched the Mystics. Five fever players scored in double digits. This win comes as a payback of sorts, as in their previous game, the Mystics shocked the Indiana Fever. That defeat against the Mystics was one of the reasons why the Fever were in a perilous situation this late into the season.

However, with the playoff spot locked down, the next task for the Indiana Fever would be to try and get some much-needed momentum built. Their final game against the Minnesota Lynx can be a big boost to their confidence. It can also send a message to their most likely opponents in the first round of the playoffs, the Las Vegas Aces.
Even though most analysts are not giving the Indiana Fever any chance of progressing beyond the first round, stranger things have happened in professional sports. Will the Indiana Fever pull off a major coup in beating the high-flying Aces (13 straight wins)? Or will the Goliath once again win over the David? We’ll know soon enough.
