2025, despite all its glamor in Indiana, has turned out to be a headache for the Indiana Fever as hard questions take shape: will the tough times ever stop for the Fever? With Sophie Cunningham’s latest MCL injury, Indiana now has 3 players ruled out for the season, alongside Caitlin Clark, whose availability remains uncertain. The next four games—against the league topper Minnesota Lynx, Seattle Storm, and Los Angeles Sparks—could define their season, but right now, the team looks stretched to its limits. Yet even in the darkest moments, there’s a spark of hope. Lexie Hull’s mom stepped in with a powerful message to lift the team’s spirits.
When the Fever lost Cunningham early in the second quarter against the Connecticut Sun, they were already behind, and the gap even stretched to 21 points at one stage. But the team never gave up. Kelsey Mitchell erupted in the second half, scoring 34 of her career-high 38 points to lead the Fever to a thrilling 99-93 overtime win. That victory improved their record to 19-16, keeping their playoff hopes alive. The road ahead isn’t easy, and Lexie Hull’s mom made sure the Fever felt the support!
Jaime Hull, Lexie’s mom, retweeted Bryn Drescher’s (@BrynDrescher) post, which highlighted how this is the moment for Fever players to prove themselves and show resilience in the face of adversity, and said, “Absolute truth!! You got this @lexiehulll & @IndianaFever !! Lock in, never ever quit, and fight until the end!!! Thank you @BrynDrescher.” Jaime has always been a vocal supporter of her daughter and the team. Remember when Lexie Hull went 17 straight games without scoring in double figures before the Sky matchup?

Just one game prior, she managed only 2 points on 1-of-11 shooting, including a season-worst 0-for-8 from beyond the arc. Hull also posted a career-worst -25 plus-minus in 26 minutes. It marked one of the worst 3 game stretches of her career. In that stretch, Hull scored just 2 points on a dismal 5.9% shooting from the field (1-of-17), including a career-worst 0-for-12 from three. Over her last 10 games, she’s averaging only 3.5 points per game, shooting 22.4% from the field and 16.7% from deep. Through it all, her mom never gave up on her.

A glance at Jaime’s Twitter shows her thanking Hull’s supporters for sticking by her daughter during this rough stretch while emphasizing that Lexie would embrace any role, always putting the team above herself. Now, even with Sophie Cunningham sidelined, she’s urging her daughter to keep fighting.

When the Fever signed DeWanna Bonner alongside Natasha Howard and Sophie Cunningham, Lexie Hull was expected to lead the bench for the second straight season. But with Bonner starting, the team struggled a bit despite winning 2 of their first 3 games. Hull stepped in as a starter, and she hasn’t looked back since. She will now have a bigger role in the team with Cunningham also out for the season. It won’t be a surprise if her minutes go from 26.4 minutes a game to 30 + in this stretch.

And the Fever aren’t backing down either. They’ve already added a replacement for Cunningham in Shey Peddy, who most recently played for the Los Angeles Sparks this season. She appeared in six games for the Sparks this season, starting five, and averaged 5 points, 3 rebounds, and 2.7 assists. They also brought in former Sparks guard Odyssey Sims last week, and she’s been solid, averaging 10 points per game in the three games she’s played this season.

Can the Indiana Fever defy the odds and make a deep playoff run without their star players?

Speaking of resilience, Coach White highlighted the team’s grit during the post-game conference following the win against the Connecticut Sun.
Coach White praises her team’s character in Sophie Cunningham’s absence
Throughout the season, the Fever have had to endure quite a lot of things. But they have always found ways to overcome. Be it overcoming DeWanna Bonner’s exit, winning the Commissioner’s Cup final without Caitlin Clark, or winning games with no fit point guard. They have done it all, and Coach White had nothing but praise for her team.

“First and foremost, they’re good human beings,” she said in the post-game conference. “They’re selfless, they’re tough, they don’t care who gets the credit, they don’t care whose day it is. They got something inside of them that you just can’t teach.” White, despite a tough phase, chose not to give up on the Championship yet, as she believes they bring it out of each other, and it allows the team to go through these incredibly tough times.
With motivation coming from every corner, as White said, “I’m just so incredibly proud of them for continuing to believe, for continuing to pull together, for continuing to step up,” can the Fever pull off the impossible and make a deep playoff run without Caitlin Clark and the other three injured guards? Only time will tell! What do you think? Can the Fever go deep this season? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
