A’ja Wilson’s confrontation with an Indiana Fever fan has continued to generate debate well beyond Game 2 of the playoff series. With fans and experts still arguing over whether Wilson went too far and what prompted the exchange in the first place, one important detail has remained unknown: what exactly did the two say to each other?

Now, a video has attempted to answer that question. Lip reader Nina Celeste analyzed the footage and offered her interpretation of the exchange, giving fans a possible glimpse into the moments that led to the confrontation.
According to the lip reader, the Fever fan, while pointing toward Wilson, said, “It’s on you. That’s on you.”
Wilson then seemingly responded, “You’re gonna point at me? You don’t point at me. You do not point at this.”
The video also attempts to identify comments from former Fever guard Sydney Colson, who appeared to side with Wilson during the exchange. Her alleged words to the fan were, “B—-, who the f—- do you think you are?”
There is, however, an important caveat. In her post, the lip reader herself acknowledged that her interpretation should not be treated as completely accurate. Even so, the apparent match between the footage and the lip reader’s reading has added another layer to an already controversial moment.
The confrontation happened in the final half of the fourth quarter of Game 2. With 4:12 remaining, Wilson moved over to set a screen on Sophie Cunningham, who had been defending Chelsea Gray. Cunningham subsequently switched onto Wilson, and the two made contact. Cunningham fell backward, and the officials ultimately called Cunningham for the foul.
While Cunningham herself protested the call, Wilson headed toward the baseline. It was during that walk that the Fever fan appeared to direct comments toward her while pointing in her direction. Wilson responded by removing her mouthguard and charging toward the spectator.
The situation escalated quickly, and referees and arena personnel intervened to keep the two apart. Wilson was subsequently handed a technical foul after officials reviewed the incident. Meanwhile, they also found that the fan had not broken any code of conduct rules.
The confrontation attracted criticism from several media personalities, including Stephen A. Smith, Rachel DeMita, Dan Dakich, and Robin Lundberg, to name a few. Wilson, however, did not back away from her response when asked about the incident after the game.
“I try to play my game, keep it pushing. But if I’m just walking, ‘cuz I just got the foul, I’m chilling. And if I see a man come at me, taking steps towards me and pointing at me, I don’t give a d— what you said, I don’t give a d— how you said it, the tone; that is unacceptable.
“You don’t step towards me. You never should step and point at me. I’m not for that s—- at all.”
While the Aces star explained why she reacted the way she did, Cunningham appeared to indirectly address the controversy on social media.
The Fever guard posted a video with the caption, “according to the rule book….” She also added “[If you know you know]… yikes!” over the clip.
The post appeared to reference the possibility of Wilson facing punishment following the confrontation, particularly with Game 3 looming. Cunningham, however, did not stop there. In another statement, she continued the apparent jab at Wilson while speaking about her own experience with a pointing finger.
“Not trying to be dramatic at all, like seriously. I was just here having my morning coffee, and what a damn comeback year for the point. Who would have ever thought? Just who would have ever thought.”
Her reference to “the point” appeared to bring the controversy full circle, pointing back to her own on-court gesture toward DeWanna Bonner during a regular season game on June 22, 2026. Cunningham never thought that her pointing at Bonner would turn her into a viral sensation.
Now, while the lip-reading video cannot establish with certainty what was said between Wilson and the fan, it has given an already heated playoff moment yet another talking point, and Cunningham clearly wasn’t about to let the opportunity pass without getting her own shot in.
