The Lunar Owls find themselves languishing at the bottom of Unrivaled Season 2 Standings after Week 1. Three consecutive big-margin losses have been a tough pill to swallow for the Chicago Sky guard Rebecca Allen & co. However, their 84-72 defeat at the hands of the Laces did provide some positives to build upon.

Speaking to the press after the defeat, the WNBA veteran highlighted the visible improvement from game to game in the Lunar Owls. Rebecca iterated that the Laces had to hit some tough shots to crawl away towards a win on the night.

She noted, “We’ve really made some strides today compared to our first two games. So, we’re about building days, and yes, we didn’t get the win, but we’re building towards that, and I can feel it coming really soon.”

That was indeed a much-improved performance on both ends from the Lunar Owls.

Offensively, this is their highest tally so far in the three matches they have played, and at half-time, the Laces led by as little as 3 points. However, a 16-4 run in the middle of the third quarter saw the game being taken away from the Lunar Owls, with turnovers one of the main reasons behind their inability to stop the Laces from extending their lead.

One huge positive was Aaliyah Edwards, who ended the game with 38 points and 13 rebounds to her name. The Connecticut Sun forward, who has only two WNBA seasons under her belt, combined with Marina Mabrey to score a total of 64 points, which is around 90% of the Lunar Owls’ score on the night.

Rebecca was appreciative of her Lunar Owls teammate when asked what she thought about the UConn graduate’s performance on the night, while also giving a nod to Marina.

“What a gift to play with a big one like that. The way she rolls, she’s a fast roller as well, and it’s really her intelligence at her age, too. I think the way that she sees and feels at the game is pretty great … it’s been fun playing alongside her and obviously with Marina as well.”

Rebecca Allen will be looking to step up as well and shoulder some of the scoring burden, with Marina and Aaliyah already finding their feet in Unrivaled Basketball. The defensive guard will see the Lunar Owls face Mist BC next, and there is hope that a win over them can kickstart their Unrivaled Season 2 campaign.

Rebecca Allen could become the veteran cornerstone for one of the two expansion teams

The Chicago Sky are expected to let veteran Rebecca Allen be available in the Expansion Draft, with the franchise likely to prefer protecting stars like Angel Reese, Kamilla Cardoso, and Ariel Atkins, along with a few other younger options. Toronto and Portland will be looking to build their rosters with the unprotected players from different WNBA franchises.

Rebecca Allen is likely to be a target for both teams in the Expansion Draft.

Add to that her international experience with the Australian National Team, and Rebecca Allen could become an experienced head that the Portland and Toronto management look forward to rounding out their roster.

The defensive guard is known for her high Basketball IQ and can be a menace with her catch-and-shoot three-point accuracy.

Allen can provide an edge to the starting roster with her ability to read and adapt to the opponents’ offensive plays. Both new franchises will look to be competitively solid from the get-go, and getting a player like Rebecca Allen could reinforce that belief within their programs.
