The WNBA rookie class is on fire this season, and Paige Bueckers is quickly becoming its brightest spark. Her game has turned heads across the league. With a record-breaking offensive style, some are already daring to say she’s more polished than Caitlin Clark. But Bueckers’ intensity isn’t just limited to the court. During the recent Wings vs Aces game, she brought the same energy to the bench. Beside her sat her so-called babysitter, Maddy Siegrist.

But why are fans calling Maddy Siegrist the babysitter of Paige Bueckers, despite just a two-year age gap? The answer goes back to the Wings vs Aces game. The two Dallas Wings teammates shared some hilarious sideline moments that quickly caught the internet’s attention and left fans in stitches. It also forced Siegrist to come forward with a hilarious confession.

Bueckers may be a rookie, but her fierceness from the sidelines rivals a veteran. The 23-year-old’s competitive spirit was on full display as she made sure her opponents felt the heat. But according to teammate Maddy Siegrist, Bueckers might have taken it a bit too far. She kept taunting the opposing team with animated gestures from the bench. While a little trash talk can be part of the game, Siegrist admitted she had to stop Bueckers from doing it over 40 times!

In the clip, Paige Bueckers is seen making a spiraling motion with her index finger. Almost instantly, Maddy Siegrist steps in, pulling Bueckers’ hand down and giving her a quick talking-to. Moments later, Siegrist places both hands on her forehead, clearly signaling secondhand embarrassment. However, her reaction may have been an attempt to shield her teammate from drawing further attention from the referees, especially after an incident in the game.

Paige Bueckers clashed with officials during the Wings-Aces game

As the fourth quarter of the game between the Wings and the Aces started, things began to heat up. It was more frustrating for the former, as they were trailing by quite a margin. The wonder rookie of Dallas was also firing up from the sidelines. Unfortunately, Bueckers selected the wrong moment to erupt, and the wrong person, too.

After a delayed foul call against the Aces, Bueckers looked visibly upset with the officials. “Do you need my glasses?” she mimed to the referee from the sidelines. While she might have said it in the heat of the moment, calls like these are enough to incur a fine in the W. Like how Indiana Fever star Sophie Cunningham was slapped with a $500 fine. The reason? Cunningham made a TikTok mocking the officials in the WNBA.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Paige Bueckers' sideline fire a sign of passion or a rookie mistake waiting for a fine?

Have an interesting take?

The WNBA has built a reputation for handing out fines over seemingly minor infractions. Liberty’s Natasha Cloud received a formal warning just for wearing a hat while on the sidelines. Minnesota Lynx guard Courtney Williams faced increasing penalties for sporting sneakers from an unapproved brand. Even Indiana Fever head coach Stephanie White wasn’t spared. She was fined for speaking out and criticizing questionable officiating decisions. So while Siegrist may have taken it upon herself to be on Bueckers, it was all in her teammate’s best interest.
