Magic Johnson has always been a part of Los Angeles basketball teams, whether as a player or an investor. He has also inked his name as a grand businessman who plays his cards right and does not step back when it comes to empowering women. The avid basketball legend now has Cameron Brink, Rickea Jackson, and McKenzie Forbes to represent his freshly tuned Sparks team. Hence, welcoming them in a grand manner was quite due.
The LA Sparks recently posted a photo of Magic Johnson standing with the trio on their official Instagram account. They greeted the ladies in black with the caption, “Welcome to LA, rookies!” Cameron Brink, who became the Naismith Defensive Player of the Year, was Sparks’ second pick in the 2024 WNBA draft. While many people thought their next pick would be Angel Reese, they chose Rickea Jackson. She was the fourth overall pick in the first round, right behind Kamilla Cardoso. At the same time, Forbes came as the 28th overall pick in the third round, becoming the last pick of the season for Los Angeles.

The three will soon don the purple and gold jersey just like Johnson once did. Fans can expect to watch the three land buckets in Sparks’ first season match against the Atlanta Dream on May 15, 2024. The Sparks have not had long-standing successful previous seasons. However, LA does have one thing that keeps them strong and that is the fandom.

Clearly, Johnson is on his move to get back on track with his co-owned California team. With defensive standout like Brink and offensive hoopers like Jackson and Forbes, this just might be the year for the Cali team to hop back on the winning ways.
How can the trio with Cameron Brink boost the Sparks?
There is no doubt that the Stanford alum could be the key to success for any team she joins. She has great stability on both ends of the court and can be a scoring machine if Sparks needs her to be. At the same time, her multiple defensive accolades are proof that she can indeed be a mountain for her opponents. Along with Rickea Jackson, the two can be quite a formidable duo. Especially, knowing the fact that the two ladies have a havoc-wreaking effect on both ends of the court.

Additionally, Jackson is still in her developing phase where her numbers are only improving with every season. As a senior, she added 22 shots from beyond the arc, proving her seriousness for the sport. LA’s third pick Forbes too has a great basketball IQ. She has established herself as a good scorer and decent playmaker with an average of 14.3 points, 3.1 boards, and 3.3 assists as a senior.
