“Hating the New York Yankees is as American as apple pie, unwed mothers, and cheating on your income tax,” as per Chicago newspaper columnist Mike Royko. And Caitlin Clark just did the unthinkable Saturday when she appeared at the Yankee Stadium donning their shirt. The combination was quite odd, combining one of the most hated teams in the USA with one of the most loved basketball players. However, this time Clark couldn’t change things with her golden touch and she received major backlash for the same.
“Ya Angel Reese ROY. Massive L,” commented one fan reminding Clark that she was still not the only contender for the Rookie of the Year award. Instead, Chicago Sky rookie Angel Reese who has made a name for herself due to her 15 consecutive double-doubles record could take home the title.

Meanwhile, Clark could be seen prepping up to throw her first pitch for the New York-based team before the game against the Texas Rangers.
Clark was drafted this year as the number one pick of the WNBA by the Indiana Fever. In her rookie season only she has broken Courtney Vandersloot’s record for most assists in a single WNBA game by scoring 19 assists. Plus, due to her, the projected Fever revenue has grown by an exponential 889% from last year’s. Albeit, her move of supporting the Yankees looks to foil her future plans.
As for Clark’s ROY opponent Reese, last year in July she too had come forward to throw the ceremonial pitch at Oriole Park in Camden Yards ahead of Baltimore’s game against the Dodgers. The opportunity came to her after she had helped LSU lift the NCAA Championship title by defeating Clark’s Iowa Hawkeyes in the jam-packed Finals. While Reese’s baseball connection didn’t bring her much scrutiny, Clark’s move certainly isn’t taken on a positive note by fans.

“Snappy dresser 💀,” one critic commented. The user did not like that Clark was dressed in denim shorts and a white top over which she was wearing a Yankees jersey.
“I’ve always been an Angel Reese fan anyways…,” another user commented that they had been fans of Reese ever since. The rivalry between the two had notably started after the NCAA Championship Finals 2022-23 when Reese had done John Cena’s You Can’t See Me move against Clark. And going by Clark’s latest move, it seemed as if Reese’s admirer didn’t want to be bothered much by it.
“I guess she’s the greatest female athlete of all time now,” one user sarcastically also took a jibe at Clark. Clark is known for her popularity and also her gameplay after surpassing the legendary Pete Maravich as the all-time leading scorer and is considered the greatest female athlete by her fans. So, the netizen took a sarcastic punch at Clark and her fans for supporting the Yankees.

“She never deserved the Olympics anyway,” one social media user went as far as saying that Clark didn’t deserve to be on the Olympic team. When Clark was snubbed from the Paris Olympics squad, a lot of her fans scrutinized the current national team. However, as per the user, it was absolutely correct not to give Clark a place in the team.
“Hahaha this is cool asf.. now staple my eyelids shut with a Pneutools MS1565 2 1/2″ Medium Crown Staple Gun,” one fan commented. The admirer was disappointed by the fact that Clark had chosen to throw the ceremonial pitch at the Yankees game and hence, didn’t want to see it happen.
While Clark enjoys her time in the Yankee stadium, the reaction of the fans has not been the most positive towards her. Hopefully, these words will not bother the rookie and she will continue to enjoy her time.
