A player’s injury at the most critical moment can alter the direction of a game. A similar event occurred in the WNBA Finals when star guard Chelsea Gray was injured. The Las Vegas Aces’ path to a convincing Finals triumph was altered due to this. With two convincing victories, the Aces have already taken command of the Final Five series. The New York Liberty on the other hand have received heavy criticism for failing to salvage the game. But a surprising turn in the course of events occurred when Gray was seen leaping into the Aces’ locker room, just one win away from their second consecutive title.

This interruption of an essential player gave the New York Liberty an excellent chance, as they defeated the defending champion by a huge margin. Though the Aces continue to dominate the finals series, Gray’s injury may jeopardize their prospects of repeating as champions.

The Las Vegas Aces were humbled by the New York Liberty in Game 3 of the WNBA Finals, with a score of 87-73. Though the game served as a ray of hope for Liberty fans, the Aces fans were highly disappointed, as they expected a comprehensive championship repeat that night. In the middle of the fourth quarter, Gray went down after a clash with Breanna Stewart. When they were leading 67-61, Stewart lost control of the ball, and in the meantime, Gray hit the ground. Later, she was hobbling and remained in the game. It took time for Becky Hammon to realize what happened.

Becky took a quick time out and removed Chelsea from the game, and she mouthed something like “My ankle’s popped.” It was a clear foot injury as fans saw Gray hopping her way back to the locker room. It surely did break the momentum of the Aces as they lost their third game to the Liberty.
