The Chicago Sky end their 4-game winless drought by securing an impressive 83-72 victory on their home turf. While many credit their rookie Angel Reese’s 7th consecutive double-doubles behind this result, the contributions of their 5 ft 9 shooting guard Chennedy Carter can also be deemed instrumental.
The 25-year-old turned out to be the game leader for the Chicago Sky locker room on Thursday. One of the noteworthy takeaways from this result for Carter’s amazing control of the ball. She reflected on it while dialing down the specifics of her performance to multimedia sports journalist Karli Bell. “To be honest, my dad trained me since I was 6 years old. Rain, sleep, snow, hot summer, humidity, it didn’t matter,” Carter said via Karli Bell’s YouTube channel.
Throughout this season, Chennedy Carter’s ball handling has been a treat to watch. She has been the front-runner within the Chicago Sky in terms of her field goals. Currently, she is 324 of 684 which gives her an efficiency of 47.4%. Carter then also opened up about the drills she had to go through to master the skill.

She additionally added, “We start out with a small ball and we get in the grass and you dribble it. Just trying to dribble it. Of course, the ball is going to bounce away, but it’s about you having control and you feeling the ball. So, once I learned to kind of dribble on the grass, I got good at it. I dribbled with different-sized balls.”

The 2018 SEC Freshman of the Year also made revelations on how dribbling without the lights further improved her skills and developed her remarkable hand-eye coordination.
Perhaps this was the reason, Carter was able to register such impressive numbers against the Dallas Wings.
Chennedy Carter steals the show
The 27 minutes of Chennedy Carter on the hardwood proved quite effective for the hosts. As it turned out, she was the joint top scorer with Marina Mabrey with 19 points, 2 rebounds along with 1 assist and 1 steal.
In addition to this, the dynamic No.7 was 8 of 10 in her field goals and successfully converted all the 3 free throws. What was interesting to note was that her first 15 points came in the 13 minutes of the opening half itself.

An inspired performance by Chennedy Carter helps Chicago get its campaign back on track. Fans will now hope that they can carry on this momentum to strengthen their playoff chances. It will however be a daunting task considering the fact that they face Caitlin Clark and Co. next. A team that has handed them defeats on both of their previous outings.
