The WNBA players have made their demands clear to the league over what they want in the new CBA. Discussions over the basis of revenue sharing continue to delay the agreement. The players want 30% of gross revenue, while the league has offered 60% of net revenue.

The latest WNBA proposal included housing concessions. But it did not feature any improvement on its stance on revenue sharing. There were rumors that players were planning a call to action to draw more attention to the entire situation.
According to a report from Front Office Sports, the players were planning a protest during the NBA All-Star Weekend. However, the entire All-Star weekend has gone off without a hitch, with no such demonstration from the WNBA stars. The reason for it is unknown, and has left everyone curious about why the players chose not to follow up on it.

“A rumor throughout the weekend was that there would be a demonstration by WNBA players in Los Angeles to push for a better deal—WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert reports to Silver—or even announce a strike. But the weekend ended without any such event.” https://t.co/HXk6TyizSq

The rumors have been floating for a while, with the WNBPA even having a players-only meeting. The players’ union even posted a collaborative Instagram post, hinting at the possibility of a protest during the upcoming NBA All-Star Weekend. WNBPA president Nneka Ogwumike did not rule out the prospect of a strike.
The NBA All-Star Weekend culminated with the USA Stars defeating Team World and the USA Stripes, with Anthony Edwards named the All-Star MVP and receiving the Kobe Bryant trophy. But there was no action from the WNBA players, who opted against any demonstration or protest, leaving everyone bewildered, especially after teasing it with the Instagram post.
While we do not know the reasons behind the inaction, WNBPA Vice President Breanna Stewart recently highlighted that the proposal was a positive step after a long period of stalling. Perhaps the latest WNBA proposal has shown promise, and the players have opted to focus more on responding to it rather than going for demonstrations or strikes that would only halt the ongoing negotiations.
That is something no one can afford, with NBA Commissioner Adam Silver already highlighting the need for urgency in knocking out a CBA agreement and proceeding with important offseason duties like the Expansion Draft, the WNBA Draft, and Free Agency before heading into preseason training.
The NBA All-Star Weekend surprised online viewers with a visibly low turnout
The 2026 NBA All-Star Weekend had a revamped format to make it more entertaining for the fans. The mid-season event featured a new three-team format for the All-Star game on the ultimate day.
The new format featured an international-player-filled Team World, a youthful USA Stars, and a seasoned USA Stripes team, which increased the intensity of the games and allowed players to compete for the first time in a while. The Slam Dunk contest drew criticism, though, with fans not happy with the level of skill on display.
A bigger fish to fry for NBA Commissioner Adam Silver will be to figure out a solution for the low turnout at the Inglewood Arena. The empty seats surprised viewers who tuned in virtually, and social media was speculating about the reasons.
Some pointed at the absurd pricing to attend the Weekend in person, while others defended it by highlighting the online viewership the NBA All-Star game garnered. A lot of usual stars were also missing in action, with Stephen Curry not featuring in the 3-point contest.
A few tweaks to the schedule, though, could improve things. The Slam Dunk Contest no longer interests the fans, and the NBA could replace it with a 1-on-1 mini-tournament like Unrivaled. The Rising Stars game could also be converted into a similar 1-on-1 mini-event, intensifying the entire scenario, with Rookies potentially going up against Sophomores.
