The 2024 WNBA drafts started at the expected pace but turned completely around. One of the biggest shockers the basketball world got was the Chicago Sky drafting Angel Reese as seventh overall pick. This was major news tonight as the Bayou Barbie will now play with her SEC rival Kamilla Cardoso on the same team. After the ‘Anything Can Happen’ March Madness, fans are bewildered by the thought of these two on the same page. Remember the reactions ESPN’s final mock draft got? Well, it has now become a reality.

However, when asked about playing together, both the stellar ladies had a positive outlook. The 2x National champion, Cardoso, had a warning for the WNBA. The freshly minted Rookie said, “I think it’s gonna be great. She’s a great player. I’m a great player. So, it’s a great place to be in. Nobody’s gonna get no rebounds on us.”

On the other hand, Angel Reese was also all-positive to team up with Cardoso. She said, “I’ve been playing against her since high school. Now being able to be teammates is going to be amazing. I’m looking forward to playing with her in practice and in games, just bouncing off of each other.” The two new Rookies clearly have no problem with each other and have a lot of plusses to add. But what does the rest of the basketball world think of this pairing?

ESPN’s mock draft comes to reality as Angel Reese lands in the Sky

In their last mock draft, ESPN projected Reese to be the eighth overall pick. Hours before the big event, Chicago traded the right to pick the 7th overall pick from the Lynx. While it was a confusing step as Minnesota received a lot in exchange for what everyone thought would be LSU’s forward, things cleared up during the event. But to fans’ dismay, Reese was picked 7th overall and went to the Sky, where Cardoso landed just a few minutes before as the third overall pick.

Consequently, fans cannot help but go into frenzy mode. One fan outrightly says that he is not a fan of this duo playing for each other. Are we expecting some more drama but on the same side of the floor now?

ESPN’s NFL analyst Jordan Reid, on the other hand, is bringing all the positive vibes. He believes that this combo can take down opponents with their offensive prowess combined in the Sky. The two can be expected to bring an average output of 29.2 points per game. However, their defense will also be something to watch out for as both lead in rebounds. They can average 20.2 rebounds per game.

Another follower mentioned that the drama that these two divas would bring to Chicago would skyrocket the speed of ticket sales. Hence, he suggests that Sky pay more money to the two players. According to the current distribution, the third overall pick Kamilla Cardoso will earn $338,056 over the four years at the Sky. On the other hand, Reese is set to make $324,383 for four years as a seventh overall pick.
