Winning a championship is usually emotional enough, but Natalie Nakase made sure her celebration was one fans would remember. After leading the Golden State Valkyries to their first-ever WNBA title, the head coach delivered an unfiltered ‘not safe for work’ message during her courtside interview, and it didn’t take long for her words to take over social media.

“This is for all the people that have been underrated, misunderstood; this is for all of y’all because these are proof that if you put all your heart and all your soul, you can f****** win championships!” Nakase said, letting F-bombs fly as she celebrated the historic victory.
The clip went viral, garnering over 48,000 views in a little over an hour of being posted on X by Underdog WNBA. Her passionate message quickly caught fans’ attention, with many enjoying the coach’s unfiltered response after reaching the top of the league.
“I was surprised they let her drop two f bombs on national tv 🤣,” a fan wrote under the post on X. Another added, “TALK UR S*** COACH”.
The 2026 title was the culmination of a long journey for a coach who had spent years working her way through different levels of basketball before finally getting her opportunity to lead a WNBA franchise.
Despite more than 16 years of coaching experience, including stints with the Los Angeles Clippers and back-to-back championship-winning runs as an assistant with the Las Vegas Aces, Natalie Nakase had often been overlooked for top coaching opportunities. The Valkyries marked her first WNBA head-coaching job, and she wasted little time proving what she could accomplish when given the chance.
So while some fans were still processing Nakase’s choice of words, others were quick to recognize the significance of what she had achieved.
One viewer admitted, “I didn’t know if I heard it right!! I was like: Did she just say what I think she said!? haha”
Another fan shifted the focus to her coaching credentials, declaring, “Best coach in the league & it ain’t close.”
Nakase’s message also extended to players like Gabby Williams, who had her own point to prove.
Williams has often operated outside the spotlight, but her performances throughout the Valkyries’ playoff run made it impossible to overlook her. And she delivered when it mattered most in Game 7, erupting for 15 points in the third quarter alone to help Golden State erase a six-point halftime deficit and take a 45-44 lead into the fourth.
Williams eventually finished the night with 30 points and earned Finals MVP honors, while Natalie Nakase became the coach who guided the expansion franchise to a championship in just its second season. The Valkyries had already made history by reaching the playoffs in their inaugural campaign. Now, they have taken another remarkable step by winning it all.
But fans were still celebrating Nakase’s emotional moment as one viewer added, “Hopefully she will sleep better and eat tonight. 🙏🏾💜”
For Nakase and Williams, this championship was more than a trophy. It was a reminder that being overlooked doesn’t have to define your journey, especially when you finally get the opportunity to prove your worth.
