On Wednesday, the Indiana Fever recorded one of their most dominant wins of the season as they defeated the Connecticut Sun 123-88. This victory sent them into the All-Star break on a high. But the heated third-quarter exchange between Caitlin Clark and Saniya Rivers that resulted in double technical fouls is still refusing to die down. So in the aftermath, if there was one thing Rivers wanted to make clear, it’s that she wasn’t about to let any disrespect slide.

“Girl idgaf if we’re down by 50, I’m NEVER tolerating disrespect. As long as there’s time left on the clock, ima keep hoopin. period,” the Sun guard wrote on Threads, responding to a fan whose original post has since been deleted.
When cameras caught Caitlin Clark saying, “Look at the scoreboard” to Rivers during the game, it was initially unclear what prompted the Fever guard to say that. However, the 24-year-old took the opportunity to clear the air during her post-game press conference.
“She said she was locking me up, so I said, ‘Scoreboard.'”
In this matchup, the Fever held a clear advantage as they played on their home court. Behind Clark’s 27-point performance, they ended up setting the franchise record for most points (70) in the first half and most points they’ve ever scored in a single game this season (123).
But despite the historic performance, the heated exchange cost Clark her seventh tech of the season, which means she is now just one more technical foul away from receiving an automatic suspension. Yet she is still far from changing her approach to the game.
“I’m never going to back down,” Calrk said after the game. “I think just like continue to try to control your emotions the best you can, and that intensity and that fire is what makes me me.”
In the end, neither of them appears to have any regrets about how the moment unfolded.
This was Rivers’ first tech call of the season. Off the bench, she finished the game with 13 points on 6-of-14 shooting from the field, six assists, and two rebounds. But as her team suffered its 20th loss, she will be looking for revenge.
The Fever and Sun are set to meet once again on August 28, giving both Caitlin Clark and Rivers another opportunity to share the court. But for now, they’ll enjoy their much-deserved WNBA All-Star Weekend break.
