Caitlin Clark isn’t one to befriend everyone. But if there’s someone she has clearly grown close to, it’s Lexie Hull. Their friendship is backed by real moments that go far beyond the basketball court. From attending Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour concert together to soaking up the spotlight at a Jordan Davis concert in Indianapolis, singing “Buy Dirt”. The duo genuinely enjoys itself together. Their social media exchanges are equally telling, with the funniest comments under each other’s posts. They have even appeared in a TikTok trying fruity drinks, showing off their goofy energy.
This bond has become a fan favorite, with moments like Clark’s slick back-door pass to Hull in the Fever’s season opener against the Chicago Sky on May 17, lighting up social media and showing their on-court chemistry.

However, Caitlin Clark was a no-show at a recent Indiana event. When the Fever were facing a 3-day break after playing the Liberty. And surprisingly, Lexie Hull was spotted attending it without her. Even though Lexie’s fiancé, Will Matthiessen accompanied her, Caitlin’s absence created some speculations. Especially because of her significant presence in Indianapolis and her sponsorship ties with Gainbridge, which was a major sponsor of the Indy 500. And also because Penske Entertainment has used Clark at series events before. She was a guest of Hy-Vee at the inaugural 2022 race at Iowa Speedway and returned last year as Grand Marshal.
Caitlin Clark was also notably absent from last Sunday’s Indy 500 practice. Even though Indiana Fever head coach Stephanie White and several teammates made appearances. White even had the honor of waving the green flag during the session. Fever players Aliyah Boston and rookie Makayla Timpson were also spotted at the track. Scott Agnes had also already reported. “The Fever then have three days between games, but all indications are that Fever guard Caitlin Clark — The Needle — will not attend the Indianapolis 500 on Sunday. “

It seems like the 109th running of the Indianapolis 500 was not on Caitlin Clark’s to-do list for May 25th. Her absence likely came down to the Fever’s tough schedule, she’d just played the New York Liberty the day before, a big game that probably had her focused on rest and prep for the next matchup against the Washington Mystics.

The reason for not attending an event that is directly tied to Indiana’s legacy, is awaited. Lexie Hull showed up at the event, but rather silently. Her presence at the event was a bit contrasting to the pre-race energy she displayed. Before the race, she wore a blue and white color-blocked IMS-themed jacket paired with a black skater skirt and knee-high boots. The jacket had a themed artwork of the Indy 500 logo on the back.
But there was no such energetic display on the D-day. Lexie later even reposted a story on Instagram from Will Matthiessen. It was a single slide, that contained a seamless 180 degree shot of the iconic Indianapolis Motor Speedway From the pit area. It captured the cheers that were almost audible over the roar of engines. The story simply had a location tag on it, no additional captions. But more than this, Caitlin Clark’s silence on social media and no public appearance at the $18.456 million event has left questions hanging. Maybe the schedule didn’t line up, or she chose to sit this one out. And for now, just one half of Indiana’s favorite duo cheered quietly.

Lexie Hull is stealing the spotlight both on and off the court. With the team sitting at 2-2 in their early WNBA matchups. Hull turned heads off the court with a showstopping Indy 500-inspired look ahead of race weekend. She strutted through the tunnel like she owned the place then dropped a photo dump on Instagram with a cool caption. “Racing through the first week of the season 🏎️.” The post blew up instantly with teammates, and even a few big names commented under it.

Caitlin Clark was quick to hype up Lexie’s post. She dropped a simple but fire comment: “Eat then,” bacially, the slang for you killed this. No surprise there, these two have been super tight since Clark landed in Indiana. Even Clark’s boyfriend, Connor McCaffery, slid into the comments with a “Clever caption,” showing that he’s fully vibing this season. And of course, the Fever’s official account tossed in some “🏎️💨” emojis.
Even without Clark and Hull appearing together at the 500, their influence is unmistakable, Clark’s transformative effect on the WNBA has resonated throughout Indianapolis, drawing attention from figures across the sports world, including IndyCar driver Graham Rahal.
Lexie’s post dropped at an important time, as the Fever are still trying to find their groove this season. Now in her fourth year with Indiana, she is putting up her best numbers yet. 10 points and 3.5 boards a game, mostly coming off the bench. Meanwhile, Caitlin Clark’s out there playing like she’s been in the league for years, dropping 19 points and dishing out a WNBA-best 9.3 assists every night. Let’s see what’s coming for Indiana next.
