This relationship is now off-limits! Back in 2025, when Paige Bueckers confirmed her relationship with Azzi Fudd in an interview with WAG Talk by referring to Fudd as her girlfriend, she might not have expected how much attention it would eventually bring. But looks like she might be following the advice of two-time WNBA champion DeWanna Bonner.

Ever since the Dallas Wings selected Fudd as the No. 1 overall pick in the WNBA Draft, the storyline has constantly drifted toward her relationship with fellow Wings star Bueckers. But as the noise only got louder, with some even questioning whether that connection influenced the franchise’s decision, Bueckers has made it clear that she would be “addressing it once.”

“Quite frankly, I believe me and Azzi’s personal relationship is nobody’s business but our own, and what we choose to share is completely up to us,” she said during her press conference at the Wings facility on Monday.

While she acknowledged the media’s role and that they “have a job to do,” Paige Bueckers made it clear that she wants the conversation to be basketball-related moving forward.

“Me and Azzi have always been the most professional; we’ve always conducted ourselves as such, and we’ve never let anything that happens off the court carry onto the court,” she added. “And that’s what we’ll continue to do.”

From their early days at USA Basketball camps to winning a national championship together at UConn, she and Fudd have built years of chemistry under the spotlight. The only difference now is the scale. And when it comes to handling that kind of attention, there’s already a blueprint in the league.

Bonner, who has spent years navigating a similar dynamic alongside Alyssa Thomas, recently shared her perspective on how Bueckers and Fudd can make it work without letting it become a distraction.

“[Alyssa Thomas] and I have been doing this for a long time,” Bonner said. “We know how to handle business when it’s business… it works. We’ve been playing together for 8–9 years now… It’s personal preference and whatever people feel like they need to do in their relationship to keep it going.”

It’s a balance between keeping the personal side private and making sure it never interferes with what happens on the court, something Paige Bueckers and Azzi Fudd have already mastered.

“Me and Azzi are not new to this… we’ve been doing this a long time, we have countless reps at it,” Bueckers added. “We’ll continue to use that experience to show up and be professionals, great teammates, great leaders, the hardest workers.”

However, before she concluded her statement, Bueckers also addressed the narrative around Fudd being the No. 1 pick because of their relationship.

“Azzi Fudd was the number one draft pick because she earned it, and it had nothing to do with me,” she said. “She’s her own great, individual person, and she should be celebrated as such.”

It is also worth noting that this stance around their relationship wasn’t just limited to Bueckers, as the same boundary was already set when Fudd faced the media.

Wings shut down questions about Paige Bueckers – Azzi Fudd relationship

During Fudd’s introductory press conference with the Dallas Wings earlier this month, a reporter tried to steer the conversation toward her relationship by asking whether they were still together and if they had spoken to other couples in the league about managing that dynamic as teammates.

However, before Fudd could even respond to the question, the organization stepped in.

“I understand why you have to ask that question, but we’re gonna respectfully decline from commenting on our players’ personal lives,” a team staffer said.

And that said everything it needed to.

The Wings weren’t going to entertain that line of questioning, not on day one and not moving forward. Because the franchise wants to remove this narrative before it even has a chance to grow, which will allow Fudd to settle into her new role without having to constantly answer questions that have nothing to do with her performance.

Also, it reinforces what Bueckers said as well. So if you are a local reporter, you might want to think twice before asking them a question about their relationship, because they would like you to keep it just about basketball.

New era all set to tip off as Wings face Fever in preseason

With their boundary clearly set, the focus now shifts back to basketball, and to be honest, it doesn’t get more exciting than this.

The Dallas Wings are set to tip off their 2026 preseason with a game against Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever on April 30 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. And for the first time since their college run, Paige Bueckers and Azzi Fudd will share the court again.

It’s a reunion for which fans thought they would have to wait for years.

The two first teamed up officially at UConn back in 2021, when Fudd arrived as a freshman, and Bueckers was already establishing herself as the face of the program. But injuries kept interrupting what should have been a dominant partnership. It wasn’t until the 2024-25 season that fans finally got the full version of the duo, and it lived up to the hype.

Together, they led the Huskies to a national championship, with Paige Bueckers averaging 19.9 points, 4.6 assists, and 4.4 rebounds per game, while Fudd added 13.6 points along with her elite perimeter scoring. But it wasn’t just their production that left everyone in awe; it was how effortlessly they fit together.

Their backcourt connection was telepathic. And it showed up in the little things.

When Fudd spaced out on the wing, defenders couldn’t cheat off her to double Bueckers. That alone opened up the floor, and Bueckers’ assist numbers consistently jumped when Fudd was on the floor because she always had a reliable outlet.

The chemistry they both share isn’t something you build overnight. It’s years of reps, instincts, and trust.
