Olivia Miles’ record-breaking rookie season found its latest entry on Wednesday. In an away win at Washington’s CareFirst Arena, the Minnesota Lynx guard posted 21 points, 4 rebounds, and 5 assists to become the fastest player in WNBA history to reach 300 points and 100 rebounds in a rookie season. Miles reached the mark in 18 games, one game faster than Caitlin Clark and Paige Bueckers, who previously held the record at 19 games each.

What made it more striking is how the night unfolded. Miles connected on just one three-pointer and missed 12 field goal attempts, managing only 11 points and two assists through the first three quarters. Heading into the fourth, Minnesota trailed Washington by eight points, with the Mystics looking for consecutive wins over the Lynx.

Miles changed that in the fourth quarter alone. She scored 10 of her 21 points in the final frame, helping Minnesota outscore Washington 28-18 to complete the 78-76 comeback. The decisive moment came in the closing minute, with a step-back three from Miles to push Lynx’s lead to four. Washington responded with one free throw, but Minnesota’s defense sealed it from there.

The milestone crossed in that game isn’t just any isolated record. Earlier in the season, Miles became the fastest player in league history to reach 300 points, 75 assists, and 75 rebounds, surpassing Caitlin Clark and Paige Bueckers. She is also tied with Bueckers as the fastest to reach 250 points and 80 assists.

All of these elements taken together reflect the range of Miles’ game. She is a rookie producing at a level of all-around impact that the league has rarely seen this early in a career. And that range has been critical for Minnesota.

The Lynx have been without franchise cornerstone Napheesa Collier and Miles has filled the void with the consistency that goes beyond shooting. She drives the team’s tempo, creates for teammates, and as demonstrated on Wednesday, and rev up her gears when the game demands it.

She addressed the Q4 performance without overstating it.

“I work on that a lot, I saw a shot that I work on, like I said,” Miles said, as per the Minnesota Lynx YouTube channel. “I didn’t shoot it well tonight, and I don’t think any of us did, except for the girl to my left (Natasha Howard).”

“But I think just having the confidence to know that, they can’t all miss. At some point, a few of them will go in. My teammates trust me to take those shots, and yeah, I just took the shot.”

Olivia Miles showed great resiliency in this final quarter of the game, despite her scoring slump in the first three quarters. Following the game, her performance was well recognized by her head coach.

Cheryl Reeve Heaps Praise on Olivia Miles’ Resilient Performance Against the Mystics

Olivia Miles had company in the scoring column. Natasha Howard finished with 21 points and Kayla McBride with 19. But the fourth quarter was Miles’ to define, and Cheryl Reeve made that distinction after the game. What stood out in Reeve’s assessment was not just the praise but the context — this is not a new trait.

“I can’t tell you how many games I watched her play, and the first half could be pretty pedestrian,” Reeve said, as per the postgame press conference. “Maybe her team’s down. I was at a number of games, and then all of a sudden Liv gets going. So. it’s like she figures it out. She figures out what’s needed and then gets really competitive and takes it to another level.”

Minnesota improve to 14-4 on the back of the win, maintaining the best record in the Western Conference. For Miles, the record speaks her worth. She has already doubled down on consistency throughout the season. If she manages to keep up with the pace, there are many other Caitlin Clark and Paige Bueckers records that can come down tumbling by the end of the season.
